Important question: when describing the ghost form of something/someone, is it more grammatically correct for the word 'ghost' to be the noun or the adjective? e.g. is my cat looking at bug ghosts or ghost bugs? A bug that is a ghost, or a ghost that was a bug?

It's worth remembering that the number of female Star Trek novelists once FAR exceeded the number of male ones. The guys who made it into our exclusive fellowship in those days were invariably the really good ones. John M. (Mike) Ford. Peter David. (And yeah, @peter.petermorwood.com.) (1/2)
Looking back, Star Trek novels were a good path into sci-fi for a young kid in the 1980s.
They had imaginative writing on a wide range of sci-fi tropes, plus lots of great women writers (Vonda N McIntyre, Diane Carey, DC Fontana, @melindas.bsky.social and @diane.dianeduane.com among others).

Same. I got into SF from what I liked at the local library, which included Asimov, plus Douglas Adams, and lots of Star Trek and Dr Who novels.
The SF books I remember getting into *earliest* were the 1980s Tom Swift novels. I loved them at the time. I am not recommending them to my kid. 😀
