The English Devolution Bill returns this week. One key part is Community Right to Buy, which gives local groups the chance to take control of community assets. I’ve tabled an amendment to make sure this includes assets that further the environmental wellbeing of local communities — like The Heavens

The BBC needs a board.

But it should not define editorial matters.

Select a citizen's assembly of 299 randomly selected people, let them take expert evidence, and make choices driven by the public.

Like a jury would.

It works for trials. Why not for sensitive areas like media impartiality?

I'll be on BBC R4's The World Tonight c.10.30pm talking about trees, national forests & rainforests tropical + temperate

The PM, on his way to the Amazon, has a golden opportunity to help save tropical rainforests AND talk about Britain's own temperate rainforests... & yet: bsky.app/profile/guys...
This is absolutely appalling.

"The UK will not contribute to a flagship fund for the world’s remaining tropical forests, in a bitter blow to the Brazilian hosts on the eve of the Cop30 climate summit."

Absolutely pathetic.

Scotland’s third Land Reform Bill has been criticised as inadequate by land reform campaigners, but here’s one good bit: it will require owners of landholdings over 1,000 hectares to set out how they are boosting biodiversity

Let’s do the same in England:

New law says large landowners need to set out biodiversity plans, in ‘big step towards a Rewilding Nation’ - Trees for Life

Amazing story in The Times. Reform UK failed to pay VAT to HMRC on its sales (tickets, merchandise). About £400k in all.

Not tax avoidance. Not tax evasion. They just didn't realise when you sell stuff you have to charge VAT.

We flounced out of the EU on the say-so of politicians who lied to us. And what a total shitshow that’s turned out to be. The polar opposite of what they promised. Now the call to flounce out of the ECHR. By the same people. Telling the same lies. Has the country been kicked in the head by a horse?

Wild populations of trees vary hugely in every way, including such aspects as leaf size: alongside this oak are others with much smaller leaves.

That genetic diversity creates far better wildlife habitat, resilience to disease, and many other benefits.

Wild = self-seeded, not planted.

The misleading article on Spain's blackouts was written by Telegraph energy editor Jonathan Leake — who until two years ago was head media at oil and gas lobby group OEUK (formerly Oil and Gas UK).
UK media is so wild. It is tough to properly convey how shockingly deceptive this article is. It's desperate I guess but a lot of people will still read this, and trust it bc it's coming from what looks to be a reputable media outlet.

The sea is being emptied of fish, also wiping out most other wildlife in the process, to feed us.

The land is being emptied of ecosystems, and the wildlife they contain, for livestock to feed us.

We have ways of feeding ourselves that DON'T require emptying the planet of wildlife.

Let's do it.
5 million fish are killed every minute by fishing industry

Super trawlers are devouring the ocean of marine life

These ships can catch, process and store hundreds of thousands of tonnes of fish

This is not sustainable

Make it stop

Ban super trawlers now
