Yup. Another one of those things that disproportionately sucks time away from some.
Experimental evidence that students are more likely to contest grades when they are delivered by an evaluator with a female-sounding name.

"These findings suggest that women in evaluative positions face disproportionate resistance when delivering negative assessments."

Congratulations to lab member Katie, whose Ball State Aspire Undergrad Research Grant was funded today!

I'm proud of how Katie persevered through writing - & rewriting - her proposal!

Looking forward to the work she will do to continue unraveling the genetic requirements for ER PQC!

Oxidative phosphorylation complexes contain subunits encoded by both the nuclear and mitochondrial genomes. How do cells coordinate the synthesis and assembly of these complexes at the inner membrane? We teamed up with Martin Ott (@mitolab.bsky.social) to address this in two recent papers.

@micropub7n.bsky.social is a fantastic publication venue for all of these things below! Especially good for undergraduate research and PUI institutions - who both do amazing research but experience difficulties in publishing smaller stories (or bias against UG research and PUIs).
Micropublication @micropub7n.bsky.social is peer reviewed and PubMed indexed. A great way to get the data out in uncertain times
