I have acquired all of these things since turning 40 except my reading glasses have to be prescription (so much easier than trying to read in progressive lenses!!) and I use my glue gun for sealing wax (it comes in sticks for that purpose) and I endorse all of this.
I have bought a ton of little low tech things over the course of the last couple years and I have made a few purchases that were very small but life changing for a middle aged lady:
-hand fans
-cotton hankies
-cheapass reading glasses
-decent pens (you pen nerds were totally right about pens)

An explosive #eruption of Hayli Gubbi #volcano, located SE of Erta'Ale in the Afar Rift (Ethiopia), began at ~08:30 UTC on Nov 23. Eruption onset was fortuitously captured by a @planet.com overpass at 08:31 UTC. Hayli Gubbi has no record of Holocene eruptions. Toulouse VAAC reporting ash to ~15 km.

Not only are hand fans superb for hot flashes, you can snap them closed in irritation at people and they flinch.
