some New Jersey homo on the internet you're probably tired of. consumer protection lawyer. left-wing politics. Rahway.
Pinned
with $15,000(!) raised a bunch of you have taken this to heart, and of course I am curious to see how much farther we can go
And it's true in the context of the Climate Superfund Act too! New Jersey is particularly flood-prone and is warming especially rapidly. We need more climate mitigation per capita than the average state does.
I hear Tom Kean’s voice, “New Jersey and Superfunds synonymous with each other”

And this, too, is the corruption tax: fossil fuel companies buy off Trenton so that you and I have to pay the ever-increasing costs of flooding, erosion, and heat waves.
the New Jersey lame duck gets worse: the Climate Superfund Act, a bill sponsored by most of the Democratic caucus which would force certain fossil fuel companies to pay for climate mitigation, got killed at the last minute by Speaker Craig Coughlin

Things like the Climate Superfund Act getting killed by leadership with hours left in the legislative term are going to keep happening without a fundamental change in how the Legislature operates. It's entirely top-down and mostly hidden from the public. Trenton needs to become a legislature again!
and all those cosponsors will probably say little if anything about this, and they'll certainly do nothing about it the public can see

An issue with “abolish ICE” is the work of ICE can still get dispersed elsewhere. But as a specific agency with a specific culture and recruitment history, it’s indefensible. Trump’s regime is doing brownshirt recruitment campaigns for it. You gotta nuke that.

These aren't normal times for politics, but even if they were, it's so clear that Democrats either don't know how to do politics or don't want to. Their position on the board is "the president is hated and his goon forces are despised" and they seem at wit's end how to message from that position.

in retrospect, it was amazing how much power people like Steven Pinker and Malcolm Gladwell had at their fingertips in the pre-social media era. They could write an airport book claiming potato chips killed more people than all historical wars combined and it would become universal received wisdom

Even in DC speak I’d take: “This agency is hopelessly politicized and has a broken culture of violence and unquestioning loyalty to Trump. Its duties will be reorganized and reassigned to other law enforcement agencies. ICE was an experiment started in 2003 and it has failed.”

The body camera plug here is so dark. He was filming when he shot her! It’s an unreformable agency. Nuke it from orbit.
I am calling for the arrest and prosecution of the ICE agent that shot and killed Renee Good.

I am also calling on Congress to support my bill with @jasmineforus.bsky.social to force ICE agents to wear body cameras, not wear masks, have visible identification & ensure ICE has independent oversight.

went to an ICE observer training this weekend and the room was almost all white+I was one of the youngest people there
I think this is probably something they think will chill dissent but the number of people in Minneapolis that have basically responded to DHS occupation by saying “I’m willing to die for my cause, are you?” makes me think this will not work

The national media, the ADL, corporate leaders, etc. are not revisiting their decisions about Musk now afaict. Musk is just allowed to be a very public Nazi accelerationist as well as a CSAM publisher without any mainstream scrutiny.
Every week is overwhelming evidence of what we saw with our own eyes, but which our credulous media was afraid to print: the Nazi salute was a Nazi salute
Yesterday Elon Musk retweeted "white solidarity is the only way to survive". In our numb overwhelmed media environment it barely made headlines that the world's richest man endorsed blood-curdling white nationalism. My brief writeup for @religiondispatches.org

Dismantling DHS is an entirely achievable goal for Democrats at this point.

You can have Fox yell at you for being a radical leftist or whatever, but you're going to have endless images of paramilitary goons assaulting people on TV, and voters will associate you with wanting to end that.

ICE raided a Morristown laundromat and kidnapped ten people including a high school senior. get these thugs the fuck out of our communities and then get them the fuck out of federal employment. then, ideally, get them the fuck in front of a court.

I will give the Legislature credit for very little but they deserve credit for this, even if they took way too long to pass it.
“I became convinced, candidly, that too many people were living in fear and that it was denying them the dignity of a normal life,” the Assembly speaker, Craig Coughlin, said.

“We wanted to stand up for people who were afraid."

Warren: Not without more restrictions. This is an agency that is out of control. If we don’t get some restrictions in place, they’re going to put more American citizens at risk.

another sign that Sherrill could turn out to be way better than her campaign promised is that government in New Jersey is very intentionally broken, *especially* the DMV (less than 20% of drivers have Real ID!) and an out-of-state pro is a hire you make if you actually want to revamp the DMV
In a state where getting a Real ID drivers license remains challenging, Gov.-elect Sherrill's nominee to run the state DMV got those licenses for 97% of drivers.
