Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential

A left wing politics that is oriented around your rights and identity as an individual consumer instead of your responsibilities as a member of a social or political community is basically a left aesthetic pasted onto an internalized neoliberal ontology.

As usual with this issue, Harris is calling for a compromise that already exists. Every sporting body has standards for how long athletes must be on hormones before they can compete as women.

The problem isn’t that we’re ignoring ‘reasonable concerns,’ the problem is that republicans are lying.

He was very good in person with his trans fans too. Growing up going to SF cons, I met many trans people before I even knew what trans meant. I gave my parents very little they needed to accept in their child, so they had lots left over for everyone else. 😉 www.thepinknews.com/2021/08/06/t...

I mean fine but if Mamdani was Spider-Man the editor of the big local paper would have a completely over-the-top and underexplained vendetta against him
This is like how New York treats Spider-man in the comic books

… or, and I’m just spitballing here, you could put in the effort and write through the damn scene yourself..? the way you want it?

how dare you appropriate my likeness for yourself in this manner, sir!
me: in cheers frasier said his dad was dead but then when sam visited him in seattle he had to explain that he was lying because their relationship was strained but to me the weirder thing is he never mentioned niles to anyone at cheers

I wish I could describe a coherent plot! But suffice to say there was a plucky kitchen boy with a talking fox as a mentor, a villain who rode a black pegasus, and some weird bits of unnecessary cruelty because I was trying to be “serious.” Lol
so, to the writers... what was the terrible novel you wrote at 14? Mine was about a redhaired freedom fighter called Eleanor Sunstripe

SINNERS is now the biggest Hollywood original movie of any kind at the box office since 2017 when Pixar's COCO came out. To find a live-action movie that made at least $200M domestic, we have to go back much further. This is truly bananas.

The thing with Pedro Pascal is he not only gives a fuck; he knows he's huge enough to spend all day trashing bigots safely because entire franchises are built around him atm. He's no dispensable Gina Carano-tier secondary guy. This also underlines how most famous artists as big as him are cowards.

This is all fascinating. I had no idea Ryan Coogler negotiated a contract where he kept final cut, first-line profits, and the rights to SINNERS after 25 years. But the idea of studio execs FREAKING OUT about it ("What if EVERY in-demand creative wants rights over their own work?") is even better.

Warner Bros.’ unusual agreement with the director has rival executives sweating, with some saying it sets a “dangerous” precedent.

In our house, boxes get left out for a week or so (in which time they will be fought over re: who gets to sit in them) before being switched out for a NEW box. … because they will get tired of the old box, and stop using it. Cats!
I bought each cat a new toy and they hate all of them and are now fighting over the box they came in

We can quibble about the placement of each item but the original sin here is the very existence of this graph. Why on earth would a news organization rank social issues like they're weapons in an RPG?
Of course the NYT sees the "DEI" stuff positively & is neutral on anti-trans discrimination

Most people i think would benefit from having a "little guy" in your home somewhere. it could be a little stuffed animal or a bobblehead or a cute keychain - everyone needs a little guy to point to when the day is rough so they can go "well at least this little guy is still here with me"
