If you're looking for an explainer on why due process matters to share with friends and family members who might ... need convincing, I've removed the (partial) paywall from my March 19 post for "One First" on the topic:

Bonus 133: Due Process and the Rule of Law
Too many Americans don't understand, at a basic level, *why* the Constitution requires due process when the government deprives anyone of their life, liberty, or property.

Mango Mussolini: *Governor Trudeau*

Trudeau: "We’re probably going to keep booing the American anthem. But let me tell Americans, we're not booing you. We're booing a policy that is designed to hurt us.

But we're Canadian. We're going to fight. And we're going to win."

They are realizing that bar discipline and disbarment are real possibilities for abusing the legal process, so they are subverting these enforcement mechanisms also
Attn: DC #lawsky:

FYI, Trump/Bondi loyalists are currently making a bid to take over the DC Bar: Her brother is running for President and Alicia Long (who I believe is US Attorney Ed Martin's chief deputy right now) is running for Treasurer.

Army withholds name of Black Hawk helicopter crew in D.C. crash, 2 others identified
A U.S. military official told NPR on Friday that at the request of the family the Army is not going to release the name of the female crew member. The withholding of the name is a highly unusual move.

We need to stop calling these settlements. Seriously. Be a reporter.

He will file suit anytime anyone says anything he doesn't like then offer a settlement. And he'll even sue the places who say good things about him. It's a bribe. And if you can't see that then you're not a serous reporter
NEW: CBS's parent company is in talks with Trump about settling his lawsuit against "60 Minutes." If a deal is reached, it would be another extraordinary concession by a major media company to a president who has spent years vowing to clamp down on news outlets. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/30/b...

Pete Hegseth is a fuckwit. And soon, thanks to the Senate GOP and @fetterman.senate.gov, he's going to be running the U.S. military.
Years ago he told me the reason I was raped in the military was because women don’t belong in the military. It makes me physically ill to think about him at the DOD in any role. He was a Fox News weekend host. He never commanded a company. Stole from vet orgs.

The guy has two Ivy League degrees, spent fifteen years in the Army, and only reached the rank of Major.

His commanders were telling anyone paying attention that he's unfit to lead.
It’s hard to overstate how far Republican standards have sunk. In Trump I, John Ratcliffe’s nomination for DNI was withdrawn because he was considered inexperienced. He looks like Dean Acheson compared to Hegseth, who received rave reviews from Wicker & co today. Astonishing.
