So every part of this is dumb but the idea that the Iliad is about 'fighting for princesses' is such a vapid take on a work that tells you exactly what it is about in the first (and last) lines.

Every time I talk about the adorable anatomy of babies I end up also having to pre-empt the comments: BABIES DID NOT EVOLVE TO BE CUTE.
It's a whole lot easier for us to change to THINK they are. The changes have anatomical uses, we just ALSO think they're cute.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

If I was running for Congress, I would promise to appropriate money for USAID, b/c as far as I am concerned it remains an agency as no-one repealed the statute that created it in 1998. It blew my mind at the time that we were like, yep, sure, we will just close an agency without authorization.
