New, from me: The NYT reporter who specializes in profiles of beleaguered right-wingers on campus went to New College...and found out that things were going ok!

So let me explain some pretty massive errors of omission: 🧵

This anodyne BS is how the NYT summarizes the most corrupt presidency in US history.

Trump said he didn't know what Project 2025 was; he lied.

He said he would get prices down; he lied.

He said he'd only deport criminals; he lied.

He started wars and attacked his own people.

NYT doesn’t get it. He’s terrorizing nonwhite people, seizing imperial power, perverting the government, and spewing hateful lies. This is pro-Trump gaslighting.

How are these fits of presidential incontinence never covered as their own news events in NYT? Hours of sick hateful bile from the curdled joyless leader of the Christian nationalists sitting in the ruins of the tinsel trimmed White House he’s demolishing — seems like a story to me.

So many of my older Jewish friends and relatives, including much of my own family, supported the Anti-Defamation League, literally for generations, for reasons including:

— They cared about civil rights
— They cared about fighting antisemitism
— They understood that the two are inseparable

This is VERY high up on my list of things we need to do better in 2026: Find a way to use the Admin's claim they oppose antisemitism to impose a cost for the antisemitism they routinely push out.

There's literally an EO forbidding federal funding for antisemitism!
As a Jew, it’s fun watching the administration post Christian nationalist messages while also saying they are doing everything they can to curb antisemitism.

Joe Ely rocked — with the soul of Woody Guthrie
youtu.be/iiBPXlQ5cF8?...

Joe Ely's version of "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" is stellar. When Joe toured with the Clash in the late 1970s one critic said that, when Joe opened, he poured gasoline all over the place and the Clash came on and lit the match. It was that incendiary.

RIP Joe Ely!

There's a lot going on, and also the legal and mental presumption of lawful orders isn't helping.

Really highlights just how brittle the US norm-based governance is or comew across, as it also makes one wonder if we need to rethink the architecture of US AT.

Great but horrific read.

First visited Austin about this times — brings back memories
Dewey Mears took this moody, atmospheric photo of Austin's Congress Avenue in 1947. It's almost film-noirish, isn't it? I wonder what it was like to walk down the sidewalk when Austin was a normal, quiet town. 😉

From the Austin History Center, a great place to visit if you're in downtown Austin.
