It's weird to not only have lived through an information revolution but also now living through its undoing, all within less than a generation.
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

You set the example from the top. Is it "civil" to call a fellow passenger "piggy?"

Always be kind to your fellow passengers as well as airport and airline staff.

In short: don't be like Donald Trump.

Covering Jamal Khashoggi's murder was one of the most disturbing things I've worked on. Hearing Trump say he was "extremely controversial" and people "didn't like him" is chilling. Hard to take any other way than he thinks there is moral ambiguity in the murder of a journalist.

Books with Pictures (@bkswpicspdx.bsky.social) in Portland, Oregon is a GREAT comic shop, and its owner in @omgkatiep.bsky.social is one of the best. The shop is going through a hard time right now, and if you want to help BwP out, they opened a GoFundMe to help do just that.

IMO the community should push *hard* to ensure Rebble stays an independent, open-source project that all users can benefit from, and should oppose Core Devices' efforts to build a proprietary walled garden out of the hard work and tech that has kept Pebble love alive over these years.
Rebble · Core Devices Keeps Stealing Our Work
This is a post that we don’t take any joy in writing. When we wrote last month about our agreement with Core Devices, we went into it believing that coopera...

I think my 'most woke opinion' is that all people are created equal, endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

It turns out the necessary conclusions are so woke we still aren't quite there 250 years later.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Ah relief!

Now that she's won, she can go back to being referred to as "Katie Wilson" and stop being called "the Mamdani of the West" or "the Zohran of the North" or "the Kwame of Queen Anne" or whatever.

I'm sure that she's more relieved about this than I am. 🤷🏿‍♂️
Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell just conceded to progressive challenger Katie Wilson at a ceremony at City Hall.

Wilson won by about 2,000 votes in a close race.

Black American soldiers literally dug these WWII graves. Traumatic. To acknowledge that fact at a cemetery they helped construct is something the Heritage Foundation cannot accept. As Veterans Day approaches, never forget that this country both compels and disrespects Black military service. Always.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

Remember how 20-year-olds barged into federal buildings and stole our most sensitive data? Shortly after, a masked army kidnapped hundreds of people and trafficked them to a concentration camp overseas. That secret police—along with the military—now occupies our cities. This is an attack on the U.S.
