Tip for PhD applicants reaching out to prospective advisors: Don’t use an LLM to write these emails. It’s not a great first impression to express your admiration for a recent paper the faculty member published if that paper does not exist.

That doesn't matter when the project is directly funding JK Rowling's hate campaign against trans people in the UK, which she has openly bragged about.

Stay away from this new HP project like the plague

I'm shocked. Shocked!
Despite the widespread and often employer-encouraged adoption of AI tools, a new study finds that artificial intelligence chatbots "have had no significant impact on earnings or recorded hours in any occupation."
Time saved by AI offset by new work created, study suggests
Survey of 2023–2024 data finds that AI created more tasks for 8.4 percent of workers.

love when people get caught using LLMs for some important analytical task "to save time" and then they're like "don't worry we rigorously vetted the results." man....you either saved time OR rigorously vetted the results, but i promise you didn't do both

TL;DR: "We have used an inefficient, inaccurate plagiarism machine with well-documented biases to choose panelists from a pool of the people the machine has stolen from. Since we know the machine constantly makes stuff up, we have also used humans to check its work. This has saved us so much time!"

This is also what I'm over here yelling about -- for this & the other reasons mentioned in this thread.
One of the biggest tells for a ChatGPT-produced work is falsified sources. I have seen bibliographies including works by that well-known author, Jane Doe (writing, of course, for University Press), as well as her colleague, John Smith (writing for Critical Press).

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

About fifty years ago, NASA strapped a message in a bottle to a rocket and flung it into the deep dark
It wasn’t supposed to go this far, but it did. Long past its mission, it’s still out there so far away now that a simple hello takes a day to reach it, and another day to hear if it says hello back

NO KINGS

TRUMP DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOU

DIVEST FROM TESLA

DEIA MATTERS

TRANS LIVES MATTER

You get the idea.
