Decent chance this piece would’ve gotten fewer viewers had it just been allowed to air.

Believe it or not, Gen Z’ers, this was our experience with the pre-social media internet:

I see that skipping the World Cup draw was, as usual, a good choice.
This is un-fucking-bearable.

Could you imagine playing in the World Cup and your team is designated to the Stillwater, Oklahoma, Holiday Inn as opposed to a resort in Cancun?

THREAD. Over many years, we became the national experts in fighting unconstitutional pretrial detention--all the more urgent because authoritarians need detention without process. But something wild just happened in one of our habeas cases: a DA used made up cases and citations.

Turning this off removes all the different inboxes and sorting and labels and you can't use them unless you turn AI back on. I am seething a little that I'm being forced to comply with a technology I do not want to be using.
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

World Cup games are not worth it. Support your local bar/pub. Go watch local teams. Tell FIFA to kick rocks.
FIFA has raised ticket prices for dozens of 2026 World Cup games, in some cases by more than 20%.

Most upper-deck tickets to the World Cup final are now $5,055 or $3,450.

Increases for two of three USMNT games.

This is probably the most depressing thing I’ve read today and I think it’s a sentiment shared by a lot of fans. It sucks that FIFA has decided to make the games so inaccessible to normal people.
Man I remember being so excited when the US was picked as a host country and Seattle seemed likely to get games. Now it's clear there was no point in that excitement. These games were never going to be for me.

Zohran's success will hinge equally on what he is ABLE to do and how effectively he messages to voters when the federal govt of wealthy interests / police, etc in NYC deliberately sabotage things.

we've seen this shit in oregon with elites lining up to torpedo progressive measures
The full weight of western capitalism is about to laser focus on NYC. The robber barons failed to win and will panic. They will sabotage NYC because the system cannot allow Mamdani's term to be successful. They cannot allow people to believe things can be better. Your job now is to hold the line.

You know who the real freeloaders in this country are? Not people who rely on SNAP, but corporations whose business model depends on wages so low that taxpayers have to feed their workers.

This is a good point
one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

MAGA Rage at “No Kings” Boils Over—and It Quickly Backfires on Trump
As Trump allies smear the coming protests, a good writer on MAGA skewers the absurdity of these attacks on large swaths of Americans—and explains why our best recourse will be to turn out in force.
