obviously this is bad, but it’s long been true of other countries we praise to the skies for their healthcare and a lot of progressive Americans don’t want to acknowledge that as a huge vector of oppression. there are a lot of places I couldn’t emigrate to even if I wanted bc they have BMI limits

The couple of responses that act like it’s hypothetical and there aren’t thousands of people sharing their personal stories and mutual aid requests every single day on social media is an example of what I’m saying. They don’t know, because the folk in the thick of it don’t get attention.
I’ve been struggling to put this in words, but as much as I love the high profile people who speak up to defend SNAP, it would be really nice if the folks who have experienced food insecurity were given the platform to speak.

Embracing secondary, doubtful status for Muslims has major policy implications. Biden’s moral+strategic disaster on Gaza, for instance, flows directly from the broad acceptance among US elites that mass punishment + destruction post-10/7 was unavoidable. Huge, horrific, still unfolding consequences.

i think i would honestly find this whole discourse more tolerable if people simply said what they were actually saying, which is that they think the Democratic Party is too associated with femininity (and secondarily, with black people) and that they want to correct this
