This morning my ChatGPT quota was inexplicably exhausted.

It took a while but I pieced it together. Voice mode somehow got activated when I went to bed.

The bot then engaged in a 10 hour conversation with my snoring dog, answering questions the pup wasn’t asking and praising him for his insight.

It’s weird to live in a time when basic principles like cruelty is wrong, cheating is empty & the idea that curiosity, generosity, originality, the satisfaction of earned accomplishments & loving intimacy are the center of a good life feel like countercultural concepts

yall we can’t collectively screech that “no one’s doing anything!” and then say “no not like that” when someone actually does something.

is Booker’s filibuster gonna save the world? of course not. but since courage begets courage it could lead to more. I’m fucking cynical as hell but come on.

Yea, this is wild
This thread is WILD. It appears as though the tattoos pictured in Trump’s Tren de Aragua checklist for deportation were all lifted from UK tattoo artists’ Instagram pages. Not a single one is from an actual gang member.
Adding more context: these examples were stolen from Instagram Pages of actual Tattoo Artist in The UK…

Best analogy to capture this moment
Writing is thinking. We get students to write so that they learn how to think and use their brains. Using LLMs to do your work is like trying to be an athlete by getting someone else to do your training for you.
What is the point of what we do if the interactions are not authentic? It is evident that students are increasingly turning to LLMs to "help" them do their work, with such dreary results - from handwaving generalizations that are rhetorically fluent but vacuous to outright hallucinations.

Things I remain highly skeptical of despite having lived in Germany for over ten years:

– that the next pizza just might be good
– dining rooms in living rooms
– teensy weensy tea spoons
– that "Kreislauf" is really a thing
– "Es zieht"
– that pepper is spicy
Things I remain highly skeptical of despite having lived in Germany for over ten years:

- Plug sockets in the bathroom
- Giant pillows
- Drinking hot beverages from a glass using a straw
- Markus Lanz
- The possibility that this week's Tatort might be good

This!
A reminder in dark times: kindness, mercy, decency, and respect towards the least of us enrages Trumpists. It burns them. It’s like a mirror that shows them how they fall short of humanity.

Kindness and decency towards the people Trumpists hate is not just right; it torments Trumpists.

Ten years ago if you had written a dystopian SF story in which the person in charge of U.S. public health did a press event at a fast food joint to say that fried food is good but measles vaccines cause measles the ghost of Philip K. Dick would have said that you were being too bleak and unrealistic
RFK Jr on the measles vaccine: "There are adverse events from the vaccine. It does cause deaths every year. It causes all the illnesses that measles itself cause."
