I was surprised Ninja vs Gokudo didn’t come up in all the discussion about Amazon Prime’s AI dubs because one of the English VAs had leaked several weeks before all that that Amazon had run their voices through an AI filter without their consent and they were paid breadcrumbs for their roles.

still galls me that when they premiered I pegged Gorillaz as waaay too high concept for America. I’d have bet money they’d do a fraction of Blur’s already puny US sales and have a few college hits. history teaches that “nonbinary cartoon singers” is less of a high concept than “British men (toffs).”

Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

Not particularly surprising that the machine #translation post-editing (MTPE) situation is just as awful in the land of translating non-fiction as it is with translating fiction, but good to hear it straight from a relevant professional with the appropriate amount of righteous fury nevertheless
