And honestly, what gets dismissed as bad American food is often food that people living in poverty eat. We have basically no social safety net. We have lots of food deserts. People rail against processed foods, but in some places and situations, that’s all you have

There is also an element of classism in dismissing some of the stuff that people outside the UK think of (erroneously, as per the above) as 'British' food that people who don't live here don't understand, and it is irritating to see it constantly expressed.
