Nathan Gill, Reform's leader in Wales at the last Welsh parliament election, has pled guilty to 8 bribery charges, taking Russian cash while he was one of Nigel Farage’s MEPs to speak in favour of Putin's Russia in that parliament

Picked up some Lib Dem stats at conference. Some of these surprised me (especially given media coverage):

1. The Liberal Democrats now control more councils than the Conservative Party

2. In May's local elections in England, the LDs elected more councillors than either Labour or the Tories.

I am having a hard time reconciling "Charlie Kirk was a fierce advocate of open dialogue and free expression" with "we must identify and persecute everyone who is insufficiently mournful"
After Charlie Kirk's death, teachers and professors nationwide fired or disciplined over social media posts
At least a dozen faculty and staff have faced fallout over insensitive comments online.

The BBC are constantly fawning over Farage's every move despite Reform only having four MPs. Our national broadcaster should reflect the whole country, not just one man’s ego.

So how many front pages do we think this story will be on tomorrow?
“Farage claimed last year to have “bought a house” in his constituency but the property is actually owned in the name of his partner, meaning he legally avoided higher-rate stamp duty on the purchase of an additional home – given he already owns other properties”

Angela Rayner accidentally pays less tax than she should have, resigns, and the media gives her hell.

Nigel Farage deliberately pays less tax than he should have, and the media gives him a free pass.

That, right there, is the problem.

I really feel for Rayner. The hypocrisy, misogyny & classism in response to her error - not that I’m condoning the error - compared to the ways in which the posh & wealthy are treated when they do it on purpose, has been stark & depressing.

That AI featured on Sun front page especially disturbing.

National Guardsmen now stationed outside our DC building confirmed that the only thing they can do if they witness a crime is call 911. The have no more authority than my office mate to intervene. Despite the handcuffs, they can't make arrests. They are very expensive mall cops.

Nigel Farage just repeatedly denied – under oath! – to @raskin.house.gov
ever banning journalists he doesn’t like from his party’s conventions.

This happened to me *literally today*.
Nigel Farage is about to give evidence to the US Congress on threats to free speech in the UK.

So here's one for him: Reform UK has just banned me (and @thenewworldmag.bsky.social) from attending its party conference this weekend. www.thenewworld.co.uk/james-ball-w...
Chicken Farage bans The New World
It claims to be the party of free speech, but this last-minute decision to stop me attending tells a very different story

This is such a cop out. The police don't send five armed officers to arrest everyone where a crime 'may' have been committed. They barely even send anyone out to burglariea. They chose to do so.

My mum's friend suggested to her yesterday that she euthanize my brother. She is beyond shocked and offended. We all are. Is this what happens when we normalise 'assisted dieing'? Or is she just a spectacularly insensitive person?

This is what communities are about. It isn't knuckle dragging morons disrespecting the flag to spread hate, it is people like Crystal Clean Windows. We saw it after the riots last year. The far right are not representative of local communities.

H/t to @ottoenglish.bsky.social for the original post.
And well done to Crystal Clean Windows who cleaned it for free

The thing about the Human Rights Act is that it is actually a very mild piece of legislation.

It is often easily sidestepped by courts in practice, and few cases turn on it.

It is there for the very occasional hard case.

But it is now a Turnip-Ghost, with little connection to legal reality.
