Political Yeti comes to Bluesky. Once a political correspondent in Westminster for a Scottish newspaper. Then freelance commentator and podcast person. Now PR and public affairs across London and Edinburgh. I’ve been alive, and around politics, long enough to have picked up a thing or two.
Get ready for a centrist dad/Karen meltdown at Avanti West Coast. I shouldn’t even be in Carlisle. I should’ve been in Glasgow an hour ago. Why are they advertising their useless punctuality stats etc if that doesn’t drive them to do any better??

The first time winners in my lifetime have all subsequently flunked. Palace need to chuck Europe asap then focus on finishing 10th instead of 12th for a few years.
Crystal Palace are the third first-time winners of the FA Cup this century

The last ten new winners

Crystal Palace (2025)
Leicester City (2021)
Wigan Athletic (2013)

Wimbledon (1988)
Coventry City (1987)
Ipswich Town (1978)
Southampton (1976)
Leeds United (1972)
Chelsea (1970)
Liverpool (1965)

Is Graham Norton actually any good at this? Feels like money for old rope. Can we try out some others? Even Rylan? #eurovision

It's... it's so beautiful

Have they been told to sing in their native language? I’ve never known anything like it, and I’m quite old. #eurovision

It’s even more remarkable than this. Superb result.

Labour have been given a clear ‘muscular liberal’ playbook from results in Canada and Australia.

EU summit this month is the next political moment for the UK. A clear commitment towards a customs agreement would be consistent with this playbook.
This would be a remarkable result if it plays out like this on Sunday. Not just a clear Labor majority — Albanese would be the first Prime Minister to increase their 2pp vote on a first re-election in modern Australian history (HT @alexotway.bsky.social).

Nope
Keir Starmer is the UK's prime minister without ever understanding what the role demands, or that he has none of the required skills to undertake the task.

Went to see Sinners. It’s really good. Made the mistake of going to my local Picturehouse instead of embracing the Plex experience. When did middle class people forget how to behave in a cinema on a Saturday night? Clapping at the credits not even the half of it.

The entire transcript of Time's interview with Trump is insane. Just to pick one moment: Trump says Biden would never do an interview with Time, then when told that he had asks how it went, then when told he can read it himself says that he had read it and it didn't go well

I’ve been making an effort this year to write up notes from the books I read. Disappointingly, this is all I got from Tony Blair’s On Leadership.
It’s going to take me days to write up my notes from The Prince.

if I understand correctly, the campaigners wanted (in their words) to stop trans women officers with a gender recognition certificate searching women.

and, in response, the police have decided to allow male officers to search trans women.

not sustainable. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

Think it shows the insanity of the last two months that this is a starting election slogan.
Annnnnd we're off. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has just called a snap election for April 28.

"We [need] to act to fight the Americans," Carney just told reporters in Ottawa.

Over the past week, Carney has been working on new military and defensive deals with Australia, France, and the UK.
