On February 7th 2003, defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld told soldiers based in Europe that the Iraq war “could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months.”

It lasted eight years.

Get loud in your opposition now. We can’t go through this again.
If you were too young in 2003 here is what Bush told the American people:

1) The Iraq War won’t cost a lot of money
3) We won’t need a lot of troops
4) We’ll bring peace and freedom to Iraq
5) We’ll find WMDs
6) We’ll be welcomed as liberators
7) It will be easy
8) It won’t take long

All lies.

"This has been a bad week for the Army for anyone who cares about us being a neutral institution," one commander at Fort Bragg...on the condition of anonymity to avoid retaliation. "This was shameful. I don't expect anything to come out of it, but I hope maybe we can learn from it long term."
Really important story - army officials asked soldiers to identify themselves if they don't agree with Trump's politics that way he'd get only supportive soldiers in uniform during his political rally on base. Heavier soldiers were also barred from participating.

As Trump viciously attacked his perceived political foes, he whipped up boos from the gathered troops directed at California leaders, including Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The IRS has begun planning to revoke Harvard’s tax-exempt status. But the legal basis for that move is one that “conservatives, more than anyone, should oppose,” Conor Clarke writes:

The Supreme Court precedent allowing the IRS to revoke a university’s tax-exempt status is a textualist’s nightmare.

1. This is a legitimately courageous stance in a moment when many elites are choosing the path of appeasement

2. Strategic alumni organizing will be crucial to make it stick. What I'm saying is: if you went to Harvard and you want everyone to know but in a humble way, THIS IS YOUR MOMENT
Honestly I'm glad they picked Harvard to try out this novel "we're mad" legal theory of revoking tax-exempt status, given its infinite resources, deep network of powerful alumni, and law school attended by 142 sitting federal judges.

Good luck! 🫡

I find myself turning to Mary Oliver’s poetry a lot lately. She had a very difficult childhood and retreated to nature for solace and joy. I love the quiet beauty and wisdom of her work. Here’s her poem “Today.”

I wonder what Columbia Law could accomplish against the GOP with a similar focus?
