I Make Art! Age 37.
Pinned
since a car crash that hindered my ability to sit in a good drawing/painting position, I'd been focusing on getting able to work again since. I'm now ready I think, but I'll be testing this by doing requests. Here's a link to a request form! Here's a form for that!

Pikobirb's Art Request Form
This form is for making requests(NOT commissions). The upside is hey, free! Filling out this form is not a guarantee of getting any art, but I will refer to people who have filled this out at times l...

Saw this amazing video about Karl Marx's Theory Of Alienation, in capitalism, and I thought I'd share it here. It's important that working class people understand this theory. Everything the capitalist ruling class does, they do for a reason. And it's ALWAYS only for profit, power, and exploitation.

Honestly, the best way to make an artist’s day is by being very specific about what you like about a piece. Geek out a lil. Gush over how they use line, color, texture. Every mark is layed down by the artist, so if you can connect with those little moments, it helps the artist feel seen.

The summary of the steps from the last thing I reposted from Sylessae.
To recap, here are the steps:
1. Work traditionally.
2. Draw daily.
3. Don't share the work.
4. Let go of intention to monetize.
5. Work in silence.
6. Listen to your mind and body.
7. Reflect on the work.

It's important to separate what you like doing from what you like the *idea* of doing.
Maybe you like the idea of texture painting but the process itself doesn't captivate you. Instead you find yourself enjoying what you didn't expect, such as sculpting or rigging.

Listen to that call keenly.

Think of all the artists who just post commissions. That's all they ever have time for. You don't know what they like or who their OCs are because they're always working.

throw $$ at artists to draw their own shit, please. Like, genuinely, please.
if you want artists to make weirder art, you have to create stable living conditions that allow them to. homogeneity isn't a matter of artists lacking culture-- there are many soulful artists out there-- it's a matter of unregulated corporate dominance combined with artists who cant afford to create

Every person on Bluesky should know:
* Every post on Bluesky is PUBLIC forever
* Every post on Bluesky is archived by ICE, NSA, and many other agencies
* Even if you delete a post, it’s already been captured
* Judges don’t care if you were “kidding” or being ironic

I've been teaching art for years.

What holds you back isn't your inability to learn theory.

It's a lack of:
- Clarity of your goal & WHY you want it
- Belief in yourself
- A simplified roadmap
- More action, less overthinking
- More objective analysis of your mistakes

I wonder if this will work. // Last year I put together a flow-centric lecture. If anyone'd care to test it, I'll leave a link in the comments. [sorry for the partial accreditation on some of the featured artists]

Being the one to write up the contract gives you control. Smaller clients don't often know what copyright to ask for & artists end up doing work for hire jobs just because that's the template the client happened to download. Having a good contract is good for everyone!
ARTISTS!
I'm sharing my contract template with simplified language and easy to fill in sections

This will be most helpful for smaller clients bc corps have their own contracts

But providing the contract will help protect you from giving away rights to your art!

Every time you avoid drawing something because it's "cringe", you push yourself further away from the people who get you. The people who are just like you.

You can't find your people until you unapologetically create.

Friends, I know you're excited to try protesting, but under no circumstances should you ever sign up to attend one. I'm suspicious of any org asking people to put their name on a list that is easily accessible via warrant or may even be public. You can just show up day of.

The travelers proceeded through the deep forest. Deep in the forest, there was suddenly an open space, lined with buildings that may have been inhabited in the past. However, there was no one around, and the forest had eroded the buildings.

The way you talk about your art is the way you talk about yourself.
