A faculty member trying to get a student deported is a monstrous abuse of power.
In case you missed it, the day before Mahmoud Khalil’s detention by Ice none other than Shai Davidai tweeted at Rubio demanding his deportation.

And once he was apprehended, he felt these were legit “consequences” for him protesting.

A faculty member @columbiauniversity.bsky.social the shameful.

UPDATE—Mahmoud's attorney says they do NOT know where he is.
They were first told he was sent to an ICE facility in Elizabeth, NJ. But when his 8-month-pregnant wife tried to visit him, she was told he's not there.
They've received reports he may be sent as far away as Louisiana.

USDA has eliminated two food safety advisory committees for microbiological contamination and meat inspection. Most recently, they had been reviewing regulatory approaches in response to the fatal Listeria outbreak from Boar’s Head meats and fatal Cronobacter contamination in powdered infant formula

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has eliminated two committees that advise it on food safety, the agency said on Friday, raising concerns about government oversight of the food supply as the Trump administration seeks to downsize the federal bureaucracy and slash costs.

Oh this! The Democrats embracing genocide and not fighting it took away so many of the people who usually help on policy stuff.

Like people are all up in arms about who everyone voted for but what really hurt them is the lack of organizers
I probably would have been writing a ton about Project 2025 in 2024 if it were not for the genocide. I'm sure that's true about a ton of the best policy researchers out there. The impact of Democratic Party-backed genocide comes through in a thousand different ways that are largely not measurable

For the first time in over 20 years, Israel has deployed tanks in the West Bank, after expelling 40,000 Palestinians from refugee camps.

This is a prelude to full annexation, and makes a mockery of the ceasefire agreement that Israel continues to violate. [1/3]

Life expectancy at birth dropped in the Gaza Strip by 35 years between October, 2023, and September, 2024.

Here’s the study in The Lancet. www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...
Life expectancy losses in the Gaza Strip during the period October, 2023, to September, 2024
Our approach to estimating life expectancy losses in this study is conservative as it ignores the indirect effect of the war on mortality. Even ignoring this indirect effect, results show that the ong...

This commission statement refers to people with Autism, ADHD, asthma, auto-immune disease, and chronic illness as a “dire threat to the American people and our way of life”.

This is a manifesto against disability.

This is the language of eugenics.

90% has happened in my grandma’s lifetime. She’s still alive. We changed the world in a human lifetime and we could do it again, but in a way that gives our kids a future.
Just to say, if you are 30, more than half of all human fossil fuel emissions have occurred in your lifetime #dataviz

Both severe cases of #H5N1 - including the death in Louisiana, and the teenager in critical condition in Canada- were D1.1 genotype viruses. This has now been detected in dairy cattle, where most of the infections in humans have been occurring (previous dairy spillovers were w/ B3.13)
4 dairy herds in Nevada recently diagnosed with #H5N1 #birdflu were infected with a different version of the virus than has been spreading in cows elsewhere. Evidence of a second (at a minimum) spillover points to the challenge of stopping spread, experts say. www.statnews.com/2025/02/05/u...
USDA milk testing shows different strain of H5N1 bird flu in Nevada dairy herds
The USDA said four Nevada dairy herds were infected with an H5N1 bird flu strain that has circulated in wild birds, making prospects for containment in cows appear dim.

The possibility of losing so many of our insect friends to things like pollution, pesticides, habitat destruction and climate change. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
