People who object to terms like "birthing person" think they're being used as synonyms for woman, but they're not - that's the whole point. A childfree woman like me would never be called a birthing person. A 12-year-old giving birth wouldn't be called a woman.

Yes, "pregnant people" is inclusive language that describes pregnant cis women AS WELL AS trans men and nonbinary people, a lot of whom can get pregnant. But it also describes, like, 12-year-old girls who get pregnant. Do centrist pig-dogs think THEY are "women" too? Coz...bit of a red flag, that.

No women ever commented on, or took part in, Nuremberg then? No women ever discussed or thought about the problem of Nazi evil and its banality? No Rebecca West, Martha Gellhorn, no Janet Flanner, no Hannah Arendt? Just an all-boys affair for an all boys evil.

Sorry, am I genuinely being asked to believe that the BBC is biased in favour of trans people?

I cannot remember the last time a trans person was given a voice on the BBC. It's as if they don't exist. They are talked about on the BBC, not talked to.

This entire debate is just fucking stupid.

Tim Davie was, AFAICT, genuinely committed to the belief that if you have two people making competing claims, telling the viewer which claim is true is editorialising and should be avoided.

They want to replace him with someone who'll actively push the right's lies as truth.

It seems to me that BBC News' problem lies in its catchphrase "We get criticised from both sides so we must be right". No: when you allow someone to say 2+2=5, you are as wrong as when you allow someone else to say 2+2=3.

What bothers me is that impartiality and balance are two different and incompatible things. Impartiality means that you don't intervene to put your thumb on the scales. Balance necessarily requires that you intervene to artificially make every issue look like a 50/50.

I do like how, in the bit of Prescott's memo where he criticises the BBC for editing together different parts of Trump's speech, his own quote of "what Trump actually said" is... edited together from different parts of his speech.

I think if you understand what’s happening here as basically the usual reactionary crackpots seizing any excuse at all to crack down further upon what the public is permitted to hear, using whatever tools and excuses happen to be lying around at the time, then that is the closest to what’s going on.
Over on X The Everything App, the wingnuts are absolutely interpreting this as the BBC getting stomped upon specifically for being a pro-Hamas propaganda outfit defaming Israel.
Happened to have the news on last night when Tim Davies resigned & I couldn't help but notice how, within the space of ~20 minutes, the story morphed from one about a dodgy edit aired over a year ago to the BBC's alleged "anti-Israel bias". Real stink of shit coming off all of this.

It's important to keep pointing this out about the many people who have gone the same way. Too often we suggest or imply that the trans moral panic merely allowed these people to be who they always were. Not true. We're seeing a process of *radicalisation*. We can't fix things unless we name them.
Transphobia is a pipeline to the far right. An example:

Suzanne Moore used to be a left wing columnist at the Guardian.

Then came the anti-trans panic. Despite the Guardian also promoting it, it wasn’t enough & she left.

Moore is now complaining about wokeness over the Irish famine & colonialism.
Suzanne Moore, who would rather be locked up than pay her BBC licence fee because the BBC is too nice to trans people for her liking.
