Plans to boost capacity at St Pancras are welcome. But the hurdles to run trains from London to 🇩🇪, 🇨🇭 and 🇫🇷 beyond Paris are elsewhere, as I explain in this piece for the iPaper inews.co.uk/inews-lifest... #CrossChannelRail
The rail routes a St Pancras upgrade could open up – if there were fewer hurdles
Efforts to smooth cross-border train travel might improve the experience, but direct services from London to Switzerland or Germany are a long way off

I’ve said for a long time that I believe the railway is at the start of a technological revolution more profound than anything since the introduction of interlocked signalling - and in the next @modernrailways.bsky.social I’ve written two features which really give weight to that view.

🚌 news: Greater Manchester is preparing to take the last of its network in after a successful - if complex - franchising process. Ridership is up, reliability is up.

As the government’s buses bill aims to replicate that everywhere, I’ve looked at if and how that can be done

It's definitely long and boring, and uses a lot of legalese, but it's also definitely worth filling it.

We can get dispirited by how hard it is to do exciting transport projects. But it really is possible to do big things on time and on budget. I know, because I've been part of a team that's done it.

"Public investment" vs "Wasteful Subsidy." The only problem with this clever Singer cartoon is that some people might actually not get that it’s sarcastically illustrating the perception problem, NOT telling the truth. Just in case it actually needs to be said, the truth is the opposite.
