New introduction post seeing as we've had a lot more new followers.

Hi, I'm Steve and I'm a beer and brewing historian.
Which basically means I research and write about the societal history of beer from a holistic viewpoint. Every aspect of beer is entwined with every other aspect, and without...
I was planning to cook a nice lunch for myself today seeing as I'm back home and have my kitchen.
But I'm still absolutely knackered and reckon it'll just be a bacon sandwich 🤣

Back home, washing in the machine, and first order of the day is to go to the shops to get in some milk for tea. As well as some food, should probably remember I need to eat and not just drink tea 🤣

Going through some photos from Belfast, and I love this sculpture.

Getting busy in Belfast!

Had so much fun working the Discovery Bar at Belfast Beer Fest, that when we closed up about 7:30, I carried on helping out in the other bars!
Such a great vibe at this festival!

I know a fair few of you folks work on the rails, or have a lovely of trains (don't make me name you!), so get along to this in my absence!
THIS IS TOMORROW! IF YOU LIKE THAT SORT OF THING!
Our member @sophiemhistory.bsky.social is speaking at Werrington NEXT WEEK on the development and impact of the railway on Victorian Peterborough.

Come along if you can!

George, don't do that.
Joyce Grenfell, for god's sake.
Been really put off the B Elton autobiography by a podcast in which he claims to have been the first person in Britain to do observational stand-up on TV. Dave Allen? Jasper Carrott? Alexei Sayle? Mike Harding?

I'll borrow it out of the library.

Would love to run a zine making day for our students on World Book Day next year, anyone got any South Yorkshire based people they could recommend?

Plan for today is to wander around the centre of Belfast this morning, then head out to the beer fest setup this afternoon.
I don't even mind that it's grey and drizzly today, some cities can still look gorgeous in the rain, and I'm hoping Belfast is one of them.

I must confirm that I was not, in fact, kung-fu fighting, and I realise I've let the side down.
I must confirm that due to age related joint pain I will not in fact be able to get up offa that thing.
I must confirm that I am not the one and only. Other people also exist

Damn good West Coast IPA in Bullhouse East this evening.
Much needed after a solid day setting up at the Belfast Beer Festival!

Set up in Belfast ready for the beer festival this weekend!

Only the cask line to hook up, everything else I'd done 24 hours ahead of time!

Setting up my "home" for the week!

Belfast is looking beautiful this morning.

Busy day ahead, so fueling up at breakfast!

Over the weekend there was a horrendous stabbing incident on the trains near where I live. The suspect boarded the train at the station I'm currently sat at waiting for a train myself.
The local press ran the inevitable "As we have it" stories full of rumour and second hand tales, and the comments..

And were underway!

Right, long day travelling tomorrow so I'm off to bed early.

I was looking to see if there was any craft places in Belfast likely to be open in the evening when I get there, but it seems that Monday is Closeday there too :~/

I'm pretty much packed ready to go to Belfast tomorrow.
Good job I've got an extra large cabin bag booked, because there's 13kg of cellar/dispense kit that I'm needing to take over with me :~/
