Brilliant man. One of my favourite sketches was a guy buying ice cream from a van - the bloke buying had a gravelly voice. “Ice cream cone please” “Crushed nuts?” “No, laryngitis”.
Stanley Baxter: Scottish comedian with a gift for sketches, mimicry and song
The actor and impressionist, known for comic parodies and his love of dressing up, was one of the biggest stars of the 1970s and 1980s.

This is an outstanding and important piece on a legal-political struggle at the heart of the uK polity. A must-read.
One man is standing up for the rule of law in Britain. His reward is to be savagely attacked by right wing think tanks, newspapers & politicians. They understand where the battle against populism is taking place. And they've marshalled their forces accordingly.

For companies planning how to deal with Trump’s tariffs – a national certificate of non-preferential origin obtained in your country IS NOT going to be relevant for exports to the US.

The Donald Trump administration’s latest round of tariffs creates a fresh labyrinth of rules for traders and countries.

Here are some striking and unexpected outcomes from the US’s leap back towards protectionism. www.ft.com/content/78c4...

The policy of the US under Trump can be fairly summarised in three impulses.

To be cruel to those they can be cruel.

To intimidate those whom they can intimidate.

And to gain leverage in respect of those they want to manipulate.

Almost everything comes down to one or more of these impulses.

Agreed. Starmer needs to focus on replacing lost US trade with other nations. This could be beneficial in multiple ways, considering the trajectory of the US
There's nothing you can do to 'support' or 'bolster'; you can offer subsidies, but you have to tax to finance them, which we all pay for. All you can do is lower trade barriers with other countries than the US.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he’ll announce measures this week to support Britain’s economy and businesses amid the threat posed by Donald Trump’s tariffs.

Quite astonishing.

US is setting tariffs to target bilateral trade balance with *every* country, "assuming no exchange rate or general equilibrium effects."

Hard to overstae how bonkers this calculation is.

US impose 10% tariff on the UK, 20% on EU. Nothing to do with deals, but probably at the lower end of what either were expecting. Add in auto tariffs 25% on top presumably though.
