...if we are really listening to autistic people, we could start by listening to the tens of thousands who have rejected ABA.
Including, the majority who have experienced it.

Better, more modern, psychology and practical approaches exist.
Kind, consensual, inclusive./

Day 18 Neurodiversity Affirming Autism Resources

Empathy is cultural. Difficulties empathising depend on cultural differences, & may be increased where multiple cultures are at play.

This book looks sooooooo lovely and affirming! 😍
This is my latest book, "More You is more than okay, never less", which was written to not only validate Autistic and Neurodivergent experiences, but also normalise them for Neurotypicals, especially in educational settings. Free preview of the entire book at brettjcole.com/more-you ❤️

I don’t like to talk about neurodivergent sense experience in terms of hyper and hypo sensitivity. Because there is no “correct” or just-right Goldilocks standpoint from which to judge. Neurodivergent people are not “incorrectly” experiencing the world. To say “more so” or “less so” misses this.

This is one of my favourite infographics. It reallllllly helps now I mostly work from home, as my family understand why asking me a “quick question” causes massive stress to me (tendrils rip out regardless of how “quick” the question is!
My first post here definitely has to be Tendril Theory, because when I made this in 2015 I had no idea how often it would be ripped off. Tell your friends and your enemies to tag me please 😂

As an ally with stammering community, how can we create safe spaces for stammering voices to thrive?
And what happens if we consider fluency techniques as survival/masking with a cost.
No judgement to individ choice, but for society to reflect on what choice is/isn’t available to people who stammer
Masking isn’t deception - it’s survival.

But it comes at a cost.

Unmasking is about finding spaces where survival doesn’t mean erasing ourselves.

Positives spaces where we can thrive aren't optional or a neat desire - they're a necessity for life.
