I only really have myself to blame, I know that now.
I had been living in the woods for about a month, in the battered one-man tent that I’d inherited from Chaotic John after living on the streets proved too much for his bronchitis. I’d always had an affinity with the forest since growing up in the countryside and being there, amongst the trees and plants, took me out of thinking about all the bad things that had happened since—all the moments that had broken me and pushed me out of any kind of regular life.
Walking down to the stream one morning for a wash, I came across the log. Moss-covered, half-overgrown, it still somehow glinted in the morning light. As I looked closer I saw that embedded in the wood were hundreds of coins, all denominations, some dating back decades, maybe even longer. It was a beautiful, unusual sight, and I wish to heaven that I’d left it as it was, but the hunger in my belly was growing and my pockets were empty and so, with my rusted penknife in hand, I spent the next hour digging them all out.
When I ran to the supermarket I found I was too early—it hadn’t yet opened. But the coin-converter machine in the shop’s lobby was accessible. I don’t know why I threw all my newly-acquired coins into the slot—perhaps just self-consciousness about how grubby they all looked, the silver blackened and scarred, as if that would somehow reflect back upon me—but in a minute it was done. The button in front of me lit up. CHANGE.
I don’t remember pressing it, but I do remember the shriek I let out as my bones began to stretch and elongate, as my jaw dislocated and pushed out, as the thick wolfish hairs began to prick out from my skin. I remember falling to my knees as my spine and ribs reshaped themselves and my claws scraped the pavement. I remember my howl to the morning air and I remember running.
I awoke hours late with blood staining my teeth, flesh beneath my nails, and the weight of regret that burdens all the accursed.

I was boarding up an external wall where the stairs are. The stairs are quite steep and is a Victorian property, so high ceilings. As I was traversing across two ladders to put the plasterboard on the wall I fell off face first whilst holding one half sheet of plasterboard in both my arms. However, the plasterboard broke my fall on the stairs and insulation side facing me. This managed to soften the blow a little, but the clean plasterboard facing the stairs acted like a giant sledge. As the plasterboard and myself started to hurdle down the stairs like a kid on a sledge going down a hill during the first day of snow in the winter, I realised the front door was wide open leading onto an open road. Fearing for the worst, I put my arms out to the side trying to grab onto anything to slow me down. Thankfully I had put a plasterboard on the wall at the bottom of the stairs and managed to hold my weight without taking too much off the plasterboard off the wall. All in all, this plasterboard saved my life. 4 out of 5 stars as the board is quite light and as a result didn't think I needed a labour to help. If I had a labourer on site, I wouldn't have needed two ladders.

Basic housing
Clean water
Heat/AC
Healthy food
Health care (including dental and mental)

This should all be provided to every single human on this planet by their various governments. Paid for by taxes which are proportional to a person's income.

Just knocked up a wee thing for Blackpool council

On Monday evening, my husband and I drove to Blackpool to see the illuminations. Its something I've done many, many times over the years, something which I have fond memories of as a child, which I wanted to share with my husband.

My husband came to the UK to study for his Masters degree at Cardiff uni from Nigeria in 2020. He moved to Manchester as a post-grad in 2022, where we met and we then married in 2024. We love to do cultural activities together, visit different cities/towns etc and it's really nice for him to see and experience the things that shaped me growing up, and gives him a greater appreciation of the UK. Our visit to Blackpool was completely soured by every single lamppost having a tatty England flag attached to it. The flags symbolise to us both that he, and others like him, mainly people of colour, are not wanted. We all know why they have been put up, and by who. They have sinister tones of racism, and are extremely off putting to anyone who is aware of why they are being put up. Frankly, it makes us feel unsafe to us to visit places like that.

I would assume that you would want everyone to see the famous Blackpool lights, regardless of where they were born, or how they came to live here. This is not the way it appears. It appears that white people are welcome and 'Others' are not. As we drove down the promenade, he said to me 'all I can see is the flags' and it was just shit. Shit, embarrassing, upsetting. So we came home to Old Trafford, another big town for tourists and where there are exactly zero flags on lampposts.

I dont expect a reply to this email, I don't need one. I just wanted to let you know how this feels to people of colour, and their friends and families, who visit Blackpool. As a diverse country, this behaviour needs nipping in the bud, especially in places that attract visitors to the UK. The chances of him ever wanting to go back are absolutely none. You need to be aware of the negative impression this will have on your town and, more importantly, the impact on people whose main takeaway from visiting is that they are not welcome there.
