Talk of carfree streets often assume they're only possible in the Central City; but thanks to visionary politicians, neighborhood advocates and supportive city policy, we are finally seeing plazas extend way beyond downtown.

Permanent median barriers, heavy-duty furnishings, a vibrant mural (that will last a long time without car tires on it), and a basketball court welcome folks into a new plaza on NE Mason at 72nd. (Pho...

oh hell yes! The lack of street vendors (and I assume this will apply to parks as well, hopefully??) is a huge barrier to creating vibrant public spaces. We've needed to loosen/define regulations around this for years and I'm so happy to see Green making the effort.
Do you wish you lived in a city where you could simply buy some street food, like a delicious hot dog, while boppin around the city? Then you're going to want to submit written testimony or sign up to speak in favor at the Arts & Economy Committee next Tuesday.

1) it's so dumb to remove these diverters, i emailed the city council saying so, and got a smarmy email from the mayor's office justifying it in return.

2) would be extremely funny/depressing/on brand if these folks chained themselves to the diverter. Like a Portlandia skit from hell
Here are the latest updates, including confirmation that PEMO Director will attend Bicycle Advisory Committee meeting on 8/12.

No word of a pause or change in plans, but supporters are making a last-ditch effort to save the diverters by occupying the intersections.

But then cry and scream and balk at any bill that finds the revenue to do it.

Then you are the problem.

I find this OPB story that mentions Sen. Mark Meek's posting of false information to Instagram troubling because it doesn't say Meek was spreading blatantly false information. The takeaway is that both sides are making an equal "claim", when in fact one side was spreading disinformation.
