This echoes the conservative counterargument to union rights a century ago, the so-called "liberty of contract."

As FDR's Interior Secretary Harold Ickes noted, that kind of "liberty" merely gave helpless individuals the freedom to "drive a bargain with a great corporation."
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

As we learn more and more about the costs associated with GenAI, I continue to wonder how institutions and their leadership decide that yes, incorporating anything OpenAI produces into the lives of educators and students is worth the harms.
"In an internal memo from September, CEO Sam Altman said that OpenAI’s “audacious long-term goal is to build 250 gigawatts of capacity by 2033.” If Altman achieves this goal, OpenAI will need almost exactly as much electricity as India’s 1.5 billion people"

"Rather than retreat from the horrors of slavery as was happening in Central and South America, Southern states in America committed to a new era of harsher conditions, dehumanizing control, and brutal punishment of enslaved people."
On this day in 1831, an enslaved Black man named Nat Turner was hanged in Jerusalem, Virginia, after being convicted of leading a revolt against slavery.

Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

1.2M veterans need SNAP benefits to feed themselves & their families, as do 13% of active military personnel.

This is intentional policy harm, and they deserve better.
