My personal interpretation (a wonderful loophole with art and a delightful passtime) is the devil got what he wanted due to tempting the fiddler into the sins of pride and greed throughout the premise and dialogue of the song. The only way to win would have been to refuse the devil's bet.
I think "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" exemplifies American culture more than any other art piece.
Most cultures' folklore involves cautionary tales warning people not to tempt the devil.
The American version has the challenger win because he is way cooler than the devil.
