Anecdotal, but in June a pal returned from Glastonbury and Wimbledon, comically sunburned from both. "Ha!" I said, "remember when we were kids, every year it was mudbaths at the main stage and rain-stopped play on centrecourt? That was the *whole* deal with both those things- oh right jesus fuck".

Was just thinking: will future archeologists be able to date human remains based on the amounts of microplastics built up in them?

"We grant people different rights based on their genetic heritage and on which scrap of land they happened to be born on. That’s mad, isn’t it?"

I just think, when debating immigration and so on, that we should try not to lose sight of the fact that "nationality" is a made up thing.
Why does nationality matter, anyway?
Deciding someone's legal rights based on a nebulous combination of birthplace and parentage is a bit weird

Little Mari is *reading* M.R James’ ghost stories to some festive ghosts (who are very scared)

Note: Little Mari cant read and most likely all the ghost stories she tells revolve around ghosts stealing toast

Now that's what I call a double bill:
This is the poster for the 1966 screening of Alphaville and La Jetée at which JG Ballard first saw two films he would often mention as SF favourites. He reviewed La Jetée in New Worlds shortly after. John Brunner (at the same screening) reviewed Alphaville in the following issue. He hated it.

Kawai's music for this is some of my favourite ever: his trademark electronics+percussion marries an ever-evolving ancient Japanese vocal chorus in a haunting ritual ceremony.

I know, I know I probably just caught it in the midst of renovation, but in this land of doubles I couldn’t help but smile a little. It’s like a local dilemma embodied - to uncover the past and let it be seen or to let it be, out of sight, shrouded in the layers of dust?
