This is an astoundingly good interview. The LA Port Director explains very clearly how profoundly trade is coming to a screeching halt. This summer will be tough.
Is this bad? I'm no international shipping expert, but this sounds bad.

For those unfamiliar with the trucking industry: 80 blank sailings means, give or take, about 1,000,000 cargo containers that had been scheduled and booked for delivery which just disappeared.

I need the press to stop saying, "This isn’t what people voted for."

No.

It IS exactly what they voted for.

They just didn't vote for it to happen to THEMSELVES.

They were okay if it was going to happen to "THOSE people."

And THAT is the problem.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

After he gets done tanking the US economy--the strongest in the world a mere two months ago--Trump is going to tank the US dollar, the pillar of the *global* economy, by tying the federal government to crypto.

This could trigger a crisis that will make 2008 look like amateur hour.

Having worked in both private industry and local government I can attest to the fact that working in public service is a very different model and mindset. If you go into government from private, you really have to tweak how you think and do things… it’s not a profit mindset, it’s a service mindset.
if nothing else I hope this era finally makes clear that government is a SERVICE, not a business. everything isn't designed to make money.
I will never forgive the people who bought into the "government should be run like a business" bullshit.
