The Chukchi Sea is approaching ice-over, though substantial areas of now disconnected open water remain. With colder weather this week, ice will grow. Ice is also growing out from the coast in the Bering Sea, and ice extent is near the 1991-2020 median for the end of November. #akwx #Arctic #seaIce

We have reviewed a magnitude 6.0 event that occurred at 08:11 AM AK time, northwest of Anchorage and at 43 miles depth.
This event was felt widely throughout south-central Alaska, and as far as Fairbanks.

Because of NOAA funding cuts, #AlaskaEarthquakeCenter is "not going to continue operating those stations in the Aleutians that are entirely NOAA-supported."

EPA's new "Waters of the United States" rule will limit #CleanWaterAct jurisdiction to "relatively permanent, standing or continuously flowing bodies of water... [and] wetlands that are connected to such bodies of water."

This ignores most Alaska wetlands.

Another dataset confirms that last month was the warmest October on record in the #Arctic. The previous record was 2024. This is already a month with a very large increasing temperature trend (i.e., Arctic amplification). Not good.
