also this would clearly be a field where the expertise of faculty from historically excluded groups would be a huge benefit, given the bias that has been consistently demonstrated in AI because of its source materials, killing two birds with one stone

But YOU KNOW that will not happen 🙄
This is fascinating because this is such a new field and somehow they are going to hire 100 tenure-track faculty in the next 5 years who specialize in it. And yet when asked to fill spots with faculty of color/women/marginalized groups, administrators often cry about how the pipelines don't exist.

“Did women ruin the workplace?” is of course wildly misogynistic. But beyond that, this framing assumes the nostalgic version of “the workplace” was good and awesome and worth maintaining. I hope women have ruined the workplace. Let’s go, girls!

Again a scathing dissent

"In my view, the Court’s failure to acknowledge the basic norms of equity jurisdiction is more than merely regrettable. It is an abdication of the Court’s duty to ensure that equitable standards apply equally to all litigants—to transgender people and the Government alike."

Jackson, joined by Sotomayor and Kagan, dissents.

Fuck this illegitimate court.

Instead of clinging to organizations like the ADL who believe assimilation into Christian society is the future, the minority religions of this country need to be willing to put face this threat as a united front. We must articulate our vision for a truly multi-religious America in one voice.

That vision is what the Heritage Foundation and Tucker Carlson are scared of, and it’s why they’ve redoubled their attacks on both Jews and Muslims in recent days. We need to be willing to see these attacks for what they really are - an effort to deny the secular character of the United States.

We see a vision for a country that is truly secular, truly multi-religious, where the establishment clause of the First Amendment is a living political force. A country where people from all religious backgrounds can live freely and openly and work together to build a better world for everyone.

So when Mamdani refuses to shy away from his faith in public, refuses to concede an inch of who he is and what he believes in the name of “respectability,” Jews who are able to see past the single issue of Zionism see proof that religious life in America doesn’t have to work the way it always has.

This is the “secular society” that Jews inhabit in the United States. One where Christians can remake society in the image of their religion and throw our name around as exotic flavoring to make their supremacist pill go down easier. It’s a sick joke and we’ve been playing along for far too long.

Meanwhile, Christians in this country can casually strip away privacy rights, First Amendment rights, benefits for the poor, and civil rights for LGBT people while explicitly citing their “Judeo-Christian” religious values as the reason why they’re doing it. And this is considered normal.

I have never heard a Jewish politician cite Tikkun Olam as the basis for any of their policy positions. I have never heard a political argument in favor of my right to exist framed using this language. Instead, we have to invent secular reasons to explain why keeping food from the hungry is bad.

it’s an absolutely beautiful way to view the world and live one’s life. it lies at the the core of how most Jews in this country live their lives.

and we’re expected to shut up about it and let Christian misconceptions of who we are and what we believe dominate the public imagination instead.

Reform Judaism has a moral ethos called “Tikkun Olam” which holds that it is the responsibility of each and every person to do their utmost to make the world a better place for everyone and that this is to be done not to earn some personal eternal reward but simply because it’s the right thing to do

meanwhile, Christian politicians in this country are *expected* to talk in detail about how and in what way their religion informs their values and policies. in fact, they can openly debate the merits of turning the U.S. into a Christian theocracy without “polite society” so much as batting an eye.

they’re both expected to treat their religion - which often lies at the core of their personal moral value system - as something private that is not to be discussed in polite company, as a part of you that needs to be sewn up and kept close to your chest, lest the Christians start getting antsy

the reason Mamdani’s campaign got so much enthusiastic support from left-wing Jews is that, despite all the talk about “Judeo-Christian values” from the right, Muslims and Jews in the US - including Muslim and Jewish politicians - are subjected to incredibly similar cultural pressures.
Along with "do not build showy public religious architecture," "do not too openly show joyful devotion to Judaism," and "do not dare to imply that Judaism is preferable in any way to any other faith."
