Democrats will often look at something that doesn’t poll well and think “oh no, better move away from that!” but they’re getting their role backwards. parties influence public opinion. if you’re purely reactive, you’re just letting the GOP frame every debate.
the lesson of the election isn’t “we should give up on trans rights,” it’s that the GOP took an issue that negatively impacted almost no one and made it a headliner. why would it help to surrender on an issue if they can create a grievance from thin air?

I'm genuinely rattled by how many people are letting Stormy Daniels's profession block their empathy for her. No wonder she wasn't keen on talking about how scary it seemed. She grasps that people don't want to see porn actresses as victims.

TL;DR: “The truth is that we are not polarized on this issue of abortion… what we have is a vocal and powerful minority attempting to enshrine their beliefs into law, over the objections of nearly twice as many Americans who disagree with them.”
My latest--5 takeaways abt abortion attitudes in all 50 states, via @prripoll.bsky.social.

One stunning finding:
Even in states where abortion is completely or effectively banned, a majority of residents (53%) believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases.

the fact that we saw the largest vaccine rollout in history, like 10 billion doses administered, there were almost no serious side effects, and the result was a large increase in anti-vaccine paranoia is proof of the power of propaganda
If there is anything that really gnaws at me it’s the realization that a lot of people are going to fight hard against any kind of public health measure including vaccination even for a disease that might have a fatality rate as high as 30-50%. Hope we don’t find out

Related and somewhat overlapping to this is anyone in transportation or urban planning/policy who believes that a new technology is needed before anything can be done. We already know how to build trains. We already know how to build apartments. We already know how to build bike lanes.
Yesterday I got into a brief argument with someone about their belief that we shouldn't put any effort into rail in cities because at some unspecified date in the future, we'll have self driving cars.
I think it's genuinely dangerous to allow people like that into conversation about public planning.
