One side effect of living in a revitalized former mill town is that we have a ton of local breweries and anytime someone sets up plans to meet up around town I have to double- and triple-check the name to ensure I'm going to the right brewery of several in the same complex of mill buildings.

This will always be a problem as long as Amtrak is operated as a semi-private company. High NEC pricing is bad for the average traveler in the northeast, but good for the system as a whole.
I'm not sure to exact extent it affects prices, but it's worth remembering that Amtrak treats the NEC as a cash-cow top subsidize the rest of the network. The BosWash corridor, which has the highest GDP of any region in the world, is the *perfect* market for this due to business travel.
If they have seats open, why should it cost more money for the consumer depending on when they book it? There should be no algorithmic pricing on train travel

Window heat pumps also have the potential (but not all are equipped for) another thing most furnaces and mini-split heat pumps can't offer:

Fresh air. More retrofit window units need to come with ERVs.
Love this section with Wenda because it reveals how we limit ourselves by limiting the heat pump discussion to just dollars & pounds of carbon. They’re virtually silent & produce much more pleasant & even warming & cooling! They make people’s lives better! That matters too!

When I get automated updates about "changes to your plan" for SaaS products i have a few account with, it's either losing features or the free tier going away entirely.

So it's a pleasant surprise to get an email saying "no action needed, you're getting some new free plan features".

Massachusetts is the only state run by Democrats that still partners with ICE. I dug into this and found that it’s had profound and very troubling consequences: at least 164 people funneled straight from state prisons to ICE since 2023 alone.

This is a great example of how you design a venue so you can "fill" it with a few dozen well placed audience members and not show a large number of empty seats.

(Its a sound stage, not an actual public audience venue)

I did a show years ago where we used an actual pickup truck as part of the show deck (fully integrated into the stage, dance numbers on the vehicle, etc). It was really fun working DSR and walking all over the truck.

One of the oddities of my profession is that I have zero opinions about football teams but I do have favorite football stadiums.

Years of living in and around Boston, I don't feel strongly about the patriots but I sure do like Gillette! I've spent many hours on that field!

Broadcast truck!

Thank you to Jeff for covering the complexity of this kind of system.

There's a lot of standards but also a lot of variability: Jeff talks about copper, which there is a lot of, but many productions do use a lot of fiber these days.

Sure, my mac is so old that homebrew yells at me that they don't support macOS 13 anymore and I can't update this computer any further, but at least I've never had to deal with Apple Intelligence *or* Liquid Glass!
I’m not usually one to brag about how much better my tech is than yours, but my iPhone is so old it can’t update to iOS 26 or run any AI features.

Maura Healey is now the only Democratic governor in the whole country with a 287(g) agreement. It is shameful that she insists on collaborating with a rogue, fascist agency.
NEW: Abigail Spanberger this afternoon ordered that all state agencies leave ICE's 287(g) program.

This means that the state police (and some other agencies) will no longer be empowered to detain and arrest people for ICE.

Big, big move by the governor within weeks of coming into office.

Abigail Spanberger left the 287(g) program, which empowered state law enforcement to detain immigrants. Will Democrats also bar local police and sheriffs from the program?

WaPo and other Bezos properties are side projects. While the ultra-rich are motivated by money, they can take a loss on side projects. There's a lot of nuance in how Amazon and aws have built large-scale dependency on one business, but now is the time to think about how to decrease that dependency.
Bezos isn't destroying the Washington Post because it isn't profitable. He's destroying the Washington Post because he's calculated that a robust free press threatens the ability of his class to warp society around their interests

Sarcastic: How about a task force because of all the people drivers kill?

Serious: Preventing injuries/deaths of kids on e-bikes and e-motos is a good thing, but part of the solution is better infrastructure that avoids bike/ped and bike/car conflicts, not speed limits or laws about warnings.
