It's a pretty big deal that the NYC Bar Association--one of the most prominent and respected bar associations in the country--is accusing the President of ordering the "unlawful summary execution," i.e. murder--of civilians in violation of US and international law. www.nycbar.org/press-releas...

Tory idiot Kevin Hollintake was as incoherent as ever on Today about asylum seekers.

Why did the Tory party reselect him? And why did the Today programme interview him?

If he's the best the Tories can offer, they should interview a Lib Dem instead.

@thisisyourparty.bsky.social

Calling your party 'Your Party' will confuse your listeners and readers. The risk is that in peactice, everyone calls it something else, like 'Corbyn and Sultana's party.'

Aside from the very different ideology, it's a bit like calling your social media platform 'X'.

this is, hands down, the best video I've seen on men's influencer content and it's not close either

The Proms should never have booked an Israeli orchestra while Gaza is being obliterated.

It's no fault of the musicians, but the invitation normalises the barbarity. And tonight's disruption was predicatable.

Why aren't rich democracies imposing sanctions on Israel that are as harsh as those on Russia?
August 6, 2025 at 3:23 PM
This is shocking. Lots of rich countries, including mine, the UK, have 0.2% or so living on less than the global poverty line, now $2.15 a day in purchasing power parity. Whereas it's 0.0% in China, still a middle-income country.

Interesting take.
I'm going to say it. I think it's not going to be popular—especially with mainstream Dems—but I'm going to say it. In the history of politics since I've been alive, no premise has come closer to "trying to make 'fetch' happen" than the effort by media and some pols to say Biden had dementia as POTUS

Absolutely true.
The oil industry buys off Congress. No action on climate.

The NRA buys off Congress. No action on guns.

Insurance companies buy off Congress. No action on health care.

The list goes on and on.

Money in politics is the root of our dysfunction.

The only appropriate response to this is impeachment and removal from office. Every moment the political press spends spinning out theories about 2026 and immigration polling is a minute they are not spending asking Republicans in Congress about their plans to enforce the rule of law

I don’t really give a shit how much of a conservative this makes me sound like, but the United States has suffered an existential collapse in the civic virtue of our citizens necessary to sustain a liberal democracy.

Absolutely true: expensive properties should pay their fair share of council tax, e.g. in proportion to their value.
Our Council Tax system is broken! Services are inadequately funded by central government leaving councils teetering on the edge. There needs to be a radical overhaul to fix the years of cuts where councils were forced to do more with less funding.

Many of the scientists that the Trump administration is defunding and persecuting will be working on strategically important technologies and research areas. The UK and other European countries should urgently establish programmes to bring those researchers here.

As reported, the entire staff of 538 was laid off this morning. This is a severe blow to political data journalism, and I feel for my colleagues. Readers note: As we were instructed not to publish any new content, all planned updates to polls data and averages are canceled indefinitely. Huge loss :(
