I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

barely an exaggeration. Chatterton authored the Harper's Letter, which decried "the tendency to dissolve complex policy issues in a blinding moral certainty." his latest book has "the age of certainty" in its subtitle and has a whole chapter about "moral clarity."

just the same idea over and over.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

We wanted to understand what a Zohran Mamdani administration would mean for New York. So we talked to a Kentucky woman who once tied for 5th place in a swim race with a transgender woman and got really mad that she didn't get to hold the trophy.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

A weirdly frequent feature of my own experience of the Trump regime is that I know they’re being racist but I can’t decipher exactly how.
Ted Cruz just posted a video montage with photos of every Democratic senator altered to make them wear sombreros and mustaches. It’s set to the song Macarena.

What the fuck are we doing here?

When talking about Palestine being a sovereign nation, these are the voices that matter. Palestinians are the people that should get to decide what their nation is.

Free Palestine.
Palestinians have strongly rejected Trump’s 20-point plan, which places Gaza under a new international oversight body led by him and a group of appointees, including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

It is 2025, the idea of any ethnostates is quite frankly disgusting. No society should grant more rights to one group based on religion or ethnicity, or any other criteria. This is what I learned growing up as an American Jew, everyone is equal, and it applies to everyone, anywhere in the world.
Fair point. But it doesn't change the fact that Jews deserve a home country - one that doesn't cover an entire region filled with different ethnics and without making it an ethnocentric nation-state.
