WE HAVE A DEAL: We are happy to share that all of our hard work - and with the support of the people of New York - we have a tentative agreement on our first contract with Alden Global Capital
Shame on Condé Nast management. If you can't take questions, don't be in the business of hiring reporters.
Breaking News: Late last night Conde Nast illegally fired 4 union organizers who asked company execs to explain the downsizing of Teen Vogue and continued layoffs. We’ve filed a grievance.

This is the first CBA the for the paper's newsroom in 34 years. This is by all measures a historic accomplishment.
When we formed this union five years ago, we aimed to safeguard against the wrath of Alden, a hedge fund notorious for scrapping newspapers for parts.

We've reached the end of a three-year battle... and come out the other side with health care for part timers, raises, and much more. This would never have happened without the dedicated support of so many people at the Daily News, former Daily Newers, and many others. 🖖🏻

"That fact seemed unfathomable to me given the way The News always embodied the rowdiest, the best and the most profanely purposeful newsroom I had ever seen, and (with permission for a bit of New York grandiosity here) the world had ever known." NYDN vet Charles Sennott on a News without a newsroom.
Alden to News: Drop Dead
Alden Global Capital, the hedge fund that owns the feisty New York Daily News, has gutted what was one of the most powerful voices for working people in the city.

The @nydnunion.bsky.social is at City Hall today trying to protest Alden Global Capital’s greed and fight for a fair contract. We deserve a fair contract with livable wages, affordable healthcare and the ability to hire staff to provide the city with comprehensive coverage it deserves.

The @nydailynews.com has been a cornerstone of NYC journalism for over 100 years, yet it only took five of hedge fund ownership to put it at risk.
I applaud @cndelarosa.bsky.social's "Too Tough to Die” resolution & proudly support @nydnunion.bsky.social’s fight to create a sustainable newsroom.

The NY Daily News is finally looking (internally) to fill the vacant night “Shack” job (crime and breaking news, often rewrite too). It’s a job I held for years before covering courts.
OFC, because Alden won’t pay a living wage, the pay is $10K+ less than back in ‘15 for the same job.
Shameful.

$57k for a full time New York job lmfao
Good News: The Daily News is finally filling an open position—but just one.
Bad News: It's an internal hire for about $57k a year—$10k less than they offered for the same job 10 years ago.
Once again, Alden and Heath Freeman show they're not investing in newspapers, just siphoning money away.
