HISTORIC! A supermajority of @council.nyc.gov members (39/51!!!) voted to reform the NYC street vending system by passing Int. 431.

As the daughter and granddaughter of street vendors, I could not be more proud of how far we’ve come.

Today the @council.nyc.gov passed COPA to add another preservation tool to our toolbox!

By giving qualified purchasers a first chance to bid on distressed properties in city enforcement programs, COPA will help level the playing field & stop the cycle of speculation & rising rents.

My colleague Vickie Paladino continues to dehumanize the over 1 million Muslim New Yorkers that the NYC Council represents. It is time that the Council takes action and expels her. We cannot allow such flagrant racism within our legislative body. My full remarks:

Rallied with @nytwa.bsky.social and @workersjusticep.bsky.social to pass two essential bills protecting Uber & Lyft drivers and deliveristas from unjust firing and arbitrary app deactivations. Our city’s immigrant workers deserve dignity and the same labor protections afforded to all New Yorkers.

At today's Stated Meeting I introduced the Tech Qualifications Package! Both bills are make sure our civil service can recruit the best talent - regardless if someone followed a four-year degree path. The package will expand access to tech jobs and strengthen the city’s workforce!

WE DID IT. We passed the most significant update of NY’s sanctuary city laws in nearly a decade, and the first major piece of immigration legislation to be passed by the Council during the second Trump administration! Because we keep us safe. @nyclu.org @thenyic.bsky.social @legalaidnyc.bsky.social

We are thrilled to share that several of our key priorities passed at the final Stated Meeting of the year!

A million Muslims live in New York City. We belong here, as does every other New Yorker.

This is vile Islamophobia from the Councilwoman and it has no place in our city.

Street Vending in NYC is broken, but my bill, Int. 431-B, is a balanced path towards reform.

The bill pairs expanded ✨access to licenses with more enforcement resources✨ a clearer, faster, and more enforceable accountability framework.

🗞📰 Street Vendors. Bodegas. Supermarkets. Restaurants.

A broad coalition is united behind Int. 431-B because it fixes what’s been broken for decades.

With one Council meeting left, let’s get this done.

Following a disgusting, Islamophobic rant by CM Vickie Paladino that included her calling for “the expulsion of Muslims” en masse, we issue a call for the Council’s Committee on Standards & Ethics to investigate and fast track the process for censure by the full Council

As Jews around the world gather to celebrate Chanukah this week, we are horrified to hear of the antisemitic attack on our fellow Jews in Australia. No one should be afraid to light a Chanukiah. No one should be afraid to attend a community gathering or go to school. (1/2)

Mr. Castro leads the Office of Immigrant Affairs. After we spoke, he testified in his personal capacity.

It’s a dereliction of duty that the Adams administration directed agencies not show up to this immigration hearing. Shameful.

We must pass the Safer Sanctuary Act.
