A public servant was detained by ICE. Masked police kidnapping a City Council employee who works every day for New Yorkers doesn’t make us safe. Trump’s deportation agenda was never about safety. It’s about scapegoating immigrants for problems caused by billionaires. Free our neighbors. Abolish ICE.

FYI: If it passes tomorrow, the Safer Sanctuary Act would be the most significant update of New York’s sanctuary city laws in nearly a decade, and the first major piece of immigration legislation to be passed by the Council during the second Trump administration.
Our city needs and deserves the Safer Sanctuary Act. ICE cannot be allowed to interfere with the right to due process. If these rules and norms cease to exist for the most vulnerable among us, they cease to exist for all of us. Tiffany Cabán NYC Council Member Alexa Avilés
