@unhny.bsky.social represents settlement houses across our city reaching over 800K New Yorkers so I'm proud to have their support on COPA!

They recognize that housing insecurity is the most pressing issue facing most New Yorkers and that COPA can offer a way to protect affordable housing.

In December we passed COPA thanks to a broad coalition of supporters.

Big real estate $ funded misinformation campaigns and muddied the waters on what COPA is and what it isn’t.

Now is the time to set the record straight 🧵

Today the @council.nyc.gov passed COPA to add another preservation tool to our toolbox!

By giving qualified purchasers a first chance to bid on distressed properties in city enforcement programs, COPA will help level the playing field & stop the cycle of speculation & rising rents.

Grateful to the 28 NYS elected officials who stood up for New Yorkers by supporting the Community Opportunity to Purchase Act in a letter sent to the City Council this morning.

We can all agree that now is the time to bring COPA to a vote and pass it!

A Council investigation found that visiting loved ones on Rikers often takes far longer than reported, with hours-long waits and canceled visits.

Council Member Sandy Nurse joined Spectrum News NY1 to discuss the report and what must change for detainees and their families:

Our community deserves dignified maternal & neonatal care. I was proud to celebrate the additional 2M dollars I helped secure for Wyckoff Hospital, bringing our total investments to 5.8M over the last two years!

Grateful to @cmjengutierrez.bsky.social for standing with me in this work!
