God knows I’ve done my share of “I’m right and the world is wrong” takes but usually re athletes or writers. If you find yourself reasoning backwards like this wrt democratically rejected politicians, that should prob spark some self reflection
The reason I “can’t let Biden go” is that by all usual measures he had a very successful presidency, and his popularity was more akin to a completely failed presidency, and that tells us something about how voters get their ideas about the world.
I don’t understand why you can’t let Biden go…the guy wasn’t some FDR. His whole argument for why he should be elected was that the Republicans are my friends and they will vote for my agenda.
That didn’t happen, so people were resentful. But Yes. We get it. the economy was ok while he was prez.

We know exactly what we’re doing lol, there’s nothing better than clowning on a former power trying to cling to their long-gone greatness. Look at how people treat the Dallas Cowboys!
I think at least part of why bad food discourse is so irritating is it's a reminder that everyone still thinks dunking on Britain is punching up. And man it absolutely does not feel like we are in a position where anyone would have to punch up to reach us, at this point

St. Louis and Kansas City would both have fewer restrictions on their powers of democratic self-governance as occupied territories of Canada than they do as cities in Missouri

Hello, we would like to continue to be the world’s dominant military power (which may involve annexing some things) and retain the central currency in the system, but not run large trade deficits or export much physical capital. Also, you really need to pay us more for this.

The United States incarcerates over 100,000 more people than China despite having a billion fewer residents than China
The really crazy thing is that as bad as things are in the United States - and they're really, really scary and bad - this is still a dramatically freer country than China, our supposed socialist competitor state

heavy-handed exposition is a kind of moral hazard in that it reminds viewers that they can continue to not pay attention. It tells them that the movie is watching itself

I don’t think a 19th c American would have any trouble grasping “speculative asset bubble that led to people losing the savings they held in an unregulated banking sector” lol

run with this, definitely run with this. everyone says 2020 was the best year of their lives, more and more you’re hearing how great 2020 was
