I fully understand how difficult it is to remain focused on any one particular atrocity but this really ought to be a serious scandal and people need to pay heavy prices for this
I think the Trump admin assumed no one would try to find out who the people on the boats they blew up really were

Huh, I'm hearing that the Democrats shut down the government, why can't Donald Trump make it open up again, I thought he was in charge, is he not in charge? Is he too weak to make the government open up again?

Judge Michael Simon, an Obama appointee, was initially assigned to the case, but he agreed to recuse yesterday because of public statements against the deployment by his wife, US Rep. Suzanne Bonamici. Judge Immergut (a Trump appointee) was randomly assigned to the case.

The idea that “the civil rights act was a mistake” is a mainstream conservative position we can only tolerate but “defund the police” is a great cancer that must be excised from America for Democrats to win is the actual reason Democrats lose. Sorry.

So the understandable idea that we need leaders of "both sides" to denounce political violence is, I believe, a nonstarter. MAGA's whole rhetorical mode, for 10 yrs, has been advocacy of violence. It'd have to denounce itself. It won't. So what else we can do to slow the rush toward more? 2/3

I'll be on PBS Newshour tonight discussing the slow civil war. To what I had the opportunity to say, I'd add that this isn't a "both sides" moment, because to MAGA there is only MAGA & enemies of MAGA. Even if the shooter turns out to be, say, a Groyper, that worldview is MAGA or enemy,.

Also, sorry, too worked up and my first cup of coffee just hit… Kirk was part of the effort to overthrow the elected government of the United States on January 6th! In what sense was that

Charlie Kirk may have been good at showing up at college campuses and talking to anyone who would listen etc. But the org he headed built a database of professors to target with harassment campaigns in the hopes of drumming them out of academia. Is that practicing politics the right way?

Is the signature that looks exactly like all of Donald Trump's other signatures, which appears on the page credited to Donald Trump in the birthday book made for Donald Trump's close personal friend Jeffrey Epstein, really Donald Trump's signature? Experts say they can't be sure.
For much of his presidency, President Donald Trump has been focused on the signature of his predecessor and whether an autopen was used to affix it.

But over the course of 36 hours, attention has pivoted to Trump’s signature.
No clear answers on whether Trump signed the Epstein birthday book
Trump denies it is his, and experts say they can’t be sure. The White House welcomed a forensic analysis of the loopy D and long tail.

Kirk’s murder is awful and ominous for this country. But no, we don’t need to honor him or “continue his work.”

The DC folk hero who threw a sandwich at a CBP officer was arraigned in federal court today on a misdemeanor charge of assaulting a federal agent. He pleaded not guilty.

Jury selection slated to start Nov 3. Yes, it’s looking like this will actually go to trial. Incredible.

the voting rights act is, in its entirety, obviously constitutional under the 15th amendment, which gives congress broad and proactive authority to stop racial discrimination in voting. and you know it is obviously constitutional because roberts has had to invent entire new doctrines to gut it.
The Supreme Court knocked down one of the two pillars of the Voting Rights Act in 2013 in the Shelby County case. It has now gone out of its way to consider whether it should knock down the other, by rescheduling arguments in a case it could have resolved in June under existing precedent.

The Supreme Court is out of control. To allow the president, without any explanation, to unilaterally dismantle agencies created by an Act of Congress is to endow the president with sovereignty. There is no justification, because they haven’t given one. Our country is in big trouble.
