We have a bit of a natural experiment here. Compare the tone, quantity and duration of Charlie Kirk coverage with that of the two Dem lawmakers gunned down in their homes in Minnesota 6 months ago. May be revealing.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-N.C.) said the shooting of Kirk, for motives unknown, happened because of Democrats.

Annoying and embarrassing that Biden hasn’t already commuted the sentences of everyone on federal death row, especially after *running* on a pledge to end the death penalty. This really isn’t complicated, you don’t need Congress, you don’t need anyone else’s permission. Get it done.

My latest is a reflection on how people have responded to the killing of a health insurance CEO. "Rather than centering Thompson’s humanity, as scolding voices have demanded, they centered their own, and the humanity and suffering of others who were harmed by the insurance industry."
Insurance Denials, Chronic Pain, and a Nation’s Rage
One might call this development “a morbid symptom” of a late-stage sickness.

Joe Biden has all the power required to do something about this. There is nothing in his way.

Please contact the White House and let him he needs to.

You can send a message with @resist.bot, use the language from it in your own message directly, whatever is helpful. Please.

Correction: I’m isolated because of how this illness interacts with people’s unwillingness to do COVID safety protocols like masking.”

"but he did electric cars"

We paid rich people to buy his cars instead of doing real environmental policy. California's ZEV credit system shuffled $10 billion more to Tesla, ~$1 billion of which was based on battery swap fraud. He got a free pass on safety and environmental regulation for a decade.
“but he did electric cars” - no he didn’t. ev1 was 25+ fucking years ago. he just lit a bunch of money on fire for years and couldn’t even get panel gaps right with a decade head start

Democrats lost while doing everything the left was begging them not to do, and now most of them have concluded that this means that it was a mistake to listen to the people they ignored and to run the campaign they didn't run, and must now pivot to doing more of exactly what they did when they lost.

It's impossible to maintain a constant hypervigilance across the entire spectrum of threats.

Hypervigilance will exhaust you and make you sick.

Solidarity and real community helps.

Be intentional with how you communicate with friends about breaking news. Don't be afraid to make requests.

One of fascism's main tactics is to physically and mentally exhaust you. To flood the zone with outrageous bullshit, to make you bite on a dozen pump-fakes — so that when the real shot comes, you're too worn out to react.

We need to pace ourselves. It's only been a week. Alert fatigue is dangerous

I hope we Americans can let go of our desire to be the individual Chosen One who leads the rebellion and punches every Nazi. Organizing is hard, it takes experience and resources and time. Stop fantasizing about being a superhero. Start joining existing groups and be part of collective action.

It’s why we get real fucking mad, mad enough to fight a mufucka to protect them, to help them. It’s why we will open our homes to ppl on the street, or bring them blankets

In either scenario, my message to myself concludes with "Now the work begins."
