One of the strangest aspects of aging that they don't warn you about is watching as history gets rewritten right in front of your face and people 20 years younger than you confidently tell you about something you lived through and get it completely wrong.

I went to a physiatrist a couple days ago, and I learned that I feel pain in places where I didn't know I felt pain. He said "that's because you don't know what it's like to be pain free".

Damn...

Friendly reminder that dishwashers made after 1995 or so are so water and energy efficient that even if you ran them twice fully loaded it would still use less water than handwashing the same load.

So many "green" things feel like sacrifices. Dishwashers are not one of them.

I think even for people who aren't artists, there are many who enjoy art as a human feat of skill and expression even if they are doing no art creation themselves. Even if AI art was better then human art, and it's not, no one gives a shit that a forklift can carry more then a weightlifter.

Good thread, and I will add that men DO NOT LIKE IT when women say "hey, you fucked up," and to the extent that women tend to soften the blow with indirectness, it's because men feel like their honor is insulted if they have to take feedback from women.
I'm not linking to that NYT piece today, but of all the horrible parts of it, this was the worst. This was an explanation of "female vices" in the workplace and LET ME JUST TELL YOU...

A car parked just around the corner caught fire and exploded. Burnt the side of the building, too. I hope the people who were in there are ok!

I didn't stick around after they put the fire out, but I can hear they're still taking care of the situation. Scary stuff.

A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon an emerging metal band on YouTube. Loved the sound, so I subscribed.

Now I'm getting recommended emerging metal artists almost daily. They're not on any other platform, and they're uploading new songs every week.

Artists behind some of the most popular films of all time are also forging one of the most powerful organized resistances to AI.

With solidarity, class action lawsuits and strong legislation, they're fighting to protect their livelihoods, and pop culture, from big tech.

My latest:
How artists behind Marvel, Alien, and the Matrix movies are fighting AI
With solidarity, legislation, class action lawsuits, and a little help from Guillermo del Toro. Plus, the Luddite Renaissance continues, and I open the mailbag.

Man...I never thought I'd experience rejection from a therapist, of all people. We talked for maybe 20 minutes when it should have been an hour. She gently cut things short and shoved me out the door. Didn't even want to get paid. What the hell?

More good environmental news!! It’s possible to fix our mistakes!
Australia's humpback whales are doing so well that their population is expected to reach carrying capacity and plateau in the near future--they have not just reached but exceeded pre-whaling numbers. For this to happen with such a long-lived, slow-reproducing species is near miraculous. #goodnews
These whales were hunted to 150 individuals. Now there are 50,000 of them
Once hunted almost to extinction, the population of humpback whales currently migrating down Australia's east coast has bounced back and is now greater than before whaling.
