In 1920s, Pius XI explained how he had approached negotiations with Mussolini: "When it comes to saving souls, we feel the courage to negotiate even with the devil." In later years, Pius XI understood the cost of those negotiations. Some US bishops seems to have learned nothing.

BINGO! fanfics is spot-on.
JD didn’t convert to Catholicism to do what the pope says. He did it to unite with the fundamentalist trad Caths living fan fics about oppressing people from the Church before Vatican 2 reforms & the Crusades & colonizing the world forcing them to convert at the barrel of a gun.

You can't talk about a big tent party and do this too.
All Democrats should get in the habit of supporting other Democrats no matter how much they might disagree in the background. This kind of behavior won’t win hearts and minds. More like contempt from both sides.

Bingo. Remember this, Catholics. Learn your American Catholic history.
The irony is that a century ago, the exact same kind of religious bigotry that Cuomo’s embraced down the stretch — we can’t elect someone from that faith or they’ll impose it on all of us! — was aimed squarely at Catholics like Cuomo.
Boy Mamdani's race is really a vivid reminder that anti-Islamic bigotry is 100% accepted in US public discourse. People don't even bother dog whistling, it's just right out in the open.

Social media amplifies our worst tendencies: bloodlust, baseless speculation, the hunger for vengeance. We were not made to see people repeatedly murdered on camera. We were not meant to read every person's unfiltered opinions. It is corrosive to the soul.

That kind of money could cover two tenure-track lines in most disciplines.
The University of Texas will waste $325,000 of public money on a speechwriter for the President.

Thank you, @jackjenkins.me and @alejacorazonhm.bsky.social for this article. Bishops speaking freely & forcefully in defense of the vulnerable should be the norm, not the exception.
NEW from me and @alejacorazonhm.bsky.social: Last month something odd happened: Catholic bishops signed two conflicting statements on the GOP budget bill.

It’s a split emerging among Catholic leaders — and nuns! — that’s years in the making, accelerated by Trump. religionnews.com/2025/07/09/t...
Trump's immigration agenda is widening fissures in Catholic hierarchy's consensus
(RNS) — ‘Francis-aligned’ bishops are following the late pope’s lead in stirring debate where politics and pastoral issues meet.

Departments should better track male versus female true workloads— including ALL service work—and make this info transparent.
A *huge* problem. It also includes search committee positions, review requests, letters of recommendation, P&T reviews (so, so many of these post tenure)—it goes on and on. And the social penalties for women saying no are so dramatically higher than when men say no.
In a study of professors, women got 378 new work requests over 4 weeks vs 118 for men. Women spent more time on service, advising & teaching; men on research. Orgs should track who is taking extra duties & ensure they are rewarded and distributed fairly. www.forbes.com/sites/kimels...

As I said on MSNBC, in 1960 white evangelical christians accused JFK that he would put the Pope over our Constitution. Today we have a new Pope who supports our Constitution more than our current President. And the white christians support this anti-constitutional President and attack the Pope.

Since there's not much going on in the Catholic world, I thought it'd be a good time to make my debut as a contributor to Catholic Women Preach. Get ready with me for Good Shepherd Sunday! www.catholicwomenpreach.org/preaching/05...

Ha.

To be honest, I don’t think he has that guilt, which is a deep socialization process. And that probably explains a lot.
Ok but imagine if you (JD Vance) convert to Catholicism, the pope calls you wrong on main, you meet the pope, the pope immediately dies, then there is a new pope, and half of this new pope’s only 5 tweets from 2025 are ALSO about how you’re wrong. JD go feel that Catholic guilt, girl!

Raniero Mancinelli, 86, has been a tailor for about 70 years. He made the robes that welcomed the Pope today. You can read about him in the National Catholic Reporter (check the links in the IG handles below).
