It's particularly galling to call for ICE to wear body cams when Renee Good's murder literally recorded the whole thing on his phone. He was so confident in his impunity as part of that organization that he recorded and allowed for the release of footage of him shooting a woman at point blank.

Saw a lot of headlines saying "wikipedia is embracing ai" being tossed around tabloids, and I'm pretty sure they were maliciously written to make you feel a certain way about Wikipedia. What's actually happening is that wikipedia is demanding payment for data scraping and the corpos don't like that.
Sure. AI companies have ALWAYS been training their models on Wikipedia content, which under the free and open access model is available to anyone — including AI companies. Agreements like these require AI companies to limit and offset the strain they place on Wikimedia infrastructure.

Holy shit.

Renee Good was alive when the bystander physician asked to check her pulse. She was alive when ICE refused to let him help. She was alive when they told him “I don’t care.”

This is your reminder that Hungarian-Jewish scientist George de Hevesy dissolved two Nobel Prizes in aqua regia to keep them out of the hands of the Nazis.

He then left the dissolved solution on his shelf and fled to Sweden.

(After the war he un-dissolved the gold and the prizes were re-cast.)

if you want to give wikipedia a birthday present, edit an article! volunteer labor is wikipedia’s most valuable resource and always has been!!!!
Operating imperfectly in an imperfect world, Wikipedia still deserves support. I do that by being a Wikipedian, correcting clear errors that I can document and fix, and occasionally translating pieces from Portuguese into English. It's a civic duty, like voting.

Some of the stories in here are absolutely chilling. One US citizen of Somali descent was just riding an elevator with ICE agents and then they detained him for almost half an hour in the freezing cold despite him showing agents his passport card. They only let him go once protestors showed up.

There are 600 Minneapolis police officers. There are 3000 federal thugs in the Twin Cities.

There are probably 5000 people plugged into one of the nested rapid response networks FOR MY NEIGHBORHOOD ALONE. Across the region, the number is probably 50,000.

THAT'S how you beat them. Build that.

It’s insane how all of our history classes were like “appeasement did not work for Hitler and the Nazis it only encouraged them to go further” and literally every power structure in the US is like “but maybe appeasement will work for us”

Imagine ICE kidnapping someone from their home, abusing them for hours, and then dropping them off in the middle of nowhere in -40 wind-chill.

With whatever they were wearing. And their phone in a vending machine for used electronics across the street from an ICE staging place.

In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties.

The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized.

Read it again: 88% of songs on Spotify have been demonetized.

This seems like a maliciously put headline to make people feel a certain way.

Wikipedia is not partaking in generative AI. They are making AI companies and scrappers having to pay for training their modules off wikipedia texts. And having an AI (not that ai) tasked with updating dead links.

it's wild that nazis can beat, kidnap, rob, and kill people on camera for fun and suffer no consequences, but a regular person who isn't a murderous scumbag would get banned from this website for saying those nazis deserve to be executed for their crimes against humanity
