I first heard of "movements," and "periods" in art and learned two of them were "Art Nouveau" and "Art Deco" more than half a century ago. And I still have to stop and take a second to sort out which is which in my head every time because dammit, Art Nouveau is more decorative and Art Deco is newer.

I think Americans are realizing that democracy is a participation sport, and the the government is ours if we want it to be. I feel like we got complacent and hoped some other third party would do the work for us. Seems like we have to learn that lesson every generation.

I hate 'em both, but I do have to admit that when a Republican is president, Paul and Massie so perfectly embody the usually toxic integrity of the ill-informed, gimlet-eyed feudist contrarianism for the sake of contrarianism that passes for conservatism in Kentucky, it makes me a little homesick.
