not snark, actually asking: after pushing a comma strategy that focused on health care, what is the case for the Democrats making a deal to end the shutdown now that doesn't involve a win on health care?

@mattseybold.bsky.social I just read your new AV blog post about CUNY stepping in for public ed-tech. 1) Bold, love it; 2) Lina Khan, who is in the transition team, might be into it. Anyone we know has an in with her? Maybe @moacir.com who's doing digital librarian type work for the DSA...

NYT pushed its “Dems must go moderate” take again yesterday. In a new piece out today, @adambonica.bsky.social shows even more clearly why the data don’t support it. It also shows what a skilled empiricist and teacher Adam is.

Very proud of my pal’s public work.

The "compact" is a threat, with the administration explicitly stating that it plans to disfavor universities that don't sign in areas from foreign student visas, student loans, federal contracts as well as grants, and even tax [501(c)(3)] status.

It's a maximalist plan of 1st Amendment violation.

So many people told me that “from the river to the sea” is genocidal because it means Israel doesn’t get a state. Now that Netanyahu says he won’t allow a Palestinian state, what does that make y’all?

This is all making me think of India Walton’s advice to Zohran: “Moderating is what got us here… I pivoted fairly quickly… to try and integrate myself into the party, because I thought that was the way to build a broad-based coalition… It sort of ate away from our message from the inside out.”

If Mamdani has inspired people by speaking authentically and honestly about issues, then pretending that the NYPD isn't that bad could alienate some of his base: bsky.app/profile/jben...
Let's take the question of whether the NYPD is racist out of the picture, right? Just do electoral cost/benefit. What this does is make it so that no constituency can really rely on what Z thinks about the NYPD. Now lefties are suspicious and it will fail to appease center/right.
